Feel itchy.
Hi, my staffy (Bruno) is 5 months old and I have him on a flea treatment every month. I use Frontline Plus. I have not come across any fleas or ticks on him but i do realise that whenever I pet and play with him, I start to itch. What could be the reason for this and if anyone has the same problems as well.... plse advise?

Re: Feel itchy.
Why are you using it so often? I don't de-flea Dempsey unless I feel there's a problem.
You're probably allergic to it yourself!

Re: Feel itchy.
The vets advised me to do it once a month but I don't. We use advocate which is a drop on the scruff. As Caryll said though I don't do it every month and you could possiably be allergic!

Re: Feel itchy.
have you noticed this reaction with other dogs? Certain dogs give me little welts on my arms, I figure I have a slight allergic reaction to their fur. It's mainly short haired dogs that make me itch. Just a thought

I have this too, my bubbas make my arms look like I've got a disease, loads of tiny little red dots on my arms, itchy but also sore.
I think it's the very short hair, I also suffer from hayfever + when I'm not taking anti histamines it's worse.
Do you think it could be a little allergy ? x

Re: Feel itchy.
I think its a reaction to fur but dont worry cat ,rabbit and puppy fur are all so soft and fluffy this does change when they get bigger. The others are right you dont need to advocate so often

Re: Feel itchy.
Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I was advised to use Frontline every month but now I will change this. Yes, I could be allergic to the fur but the welts and itchyness does not last long so, Im glad that it is not some parasite issue. Thanks

Re: Feel itchy.
I really don't know why vets say to de-flea every month. Why bombard your dog with such harsh chemicals if they're not needed? I prefer to inspect my dog's coat every time I brush him (a couple of times a week) and if I see anything, or if he starts to scratch or get sensitive, then I'll consider using some.
