Dempsey at the vets AGAIN! Empty Dempsey at the vets AGAIN!

OH took Dempsey for a walk over the park last night, & to cut a long story short he broke his dew claw. When he got back from his walk the claw was sticking out at right angles to his leg & he couldn't put weight on his foot & didn't want any one touching it.

Had a closer look (I'm the only one who can handle him when he's not well/in pain) and it looked as though the toe itself was broken, not the claw! Sad

So OH held him down while I tied a bandage round it to stop him catching it any further & then round the vets this morning.

The vet got down on the floor with Dempsey & I told him he ought to get a muzzle before he started touching him! One muzzle later, he got down again & had a good look. Dempsey growled, quietly at first & then louder & louder until it became a blood-curdling snarl & the vet didn't bat an eyelid. Then when he moved the toe Dempsey went ballistic! Snapping, snarling & trying to get away. Still the vet didn't worry, just left his hand on Dempsey's shoulder & called him a wimp! Brave man!

Anyway, it turns out the claw was broken at the base, not the toe, so he just got some heavy duty clippers & clipped it straight off! One really loud yelp later it was all over.

He's now really sorry for himself, but at least it isn't bothering him the way it was & because there were no drugs or anaesthetic involved it only cost £22.

I was impressed by the guy, actually. Most people faced by a snarling bully (even a muzzled one) will at least flinch a bit, but he didn't.

I really like the vets at this practise - they all obviously love animals & are really good with them.

Vet reckons it'll grow back, but might grow crooked. If it does, & it sticks out, he might have to have the toe removed, but let's hope not!!

My last dog (a boxer) had his dew claws removed when we got him at about a year old.

Anyone know what the dew claws are actually for? chase just uses his to hold his toys while his chewing them lol

I have to take him to the vets every now n again to get them cut cos they get long n sharp.

Poor Dempsey.
The night before Blue was due to get castrated Blue ripped one of his off, So I got them both removed but it was bright red and looked really sore. To get it snipped off with no drugs....ouch I bet he gave out a welp.
Poor Dempsey. Hope he is better soon

Poor fella, he now has an upset tummy! Probably cause of the stress. I took him over the park this afternoon & he was lively enough, but he's now laying on the living room floor looking miserable! Sad

I think it's probably still aching a bit, but he'll probably feel much better by morning.

I know it must be cos Blue had his removed and his nuts chopped off at the same time and he spent the next 48 hours looking at his paws Laughing

Yes, but he has a poorly tummy now! He's pooping bits of wood, the stupid dog, and I think they've irritated his bowel - honestly, you'd think he doesn't get enough to eat, the way he's constantly swallowing things he shouldn't!

No, no, he's home because he's on exam leave! He only has to go in when he has an exam! Not like when I did 'A' levels, I had to go in regardless of if I had an exam or not! Lucky s*d!!!!

Pencil sketching (no colour) and screen printing. It was the screen printing that took the preparation time. We were given the subject of the exam about 4 weeks before, and we had to come up with the design, make the drawings & cut out the templates before the actual exam.

My drawing was of a potted cyclamen, and the screen printing was in pastels & was a repeating & interlocking pattern of clouds with the sun poking through on a 6' sheet of white linen.

Today was my OH's day off, and he let Dempsey into the bedroom this morning (I don't normally because he chews things!) and let him get up on the bed. He settled down & went to sleep curled up against my OH. Suddenly he must have caught his bad leg because he let out a yelp & did a silly, irritable growl and nibbled my OH's hand!

I know I should have told him off, but the look of surprise on OH's face was priceless & I couldn't stop laughing!
