Any worries about your dog food?
In light of all the horse meat going into human food, do any of you worry that it could be in our dog food?

Horse and donkey have been sold for millenia anyway, its in food here but people just don't read the ingredients. Salami for example.

Having horse meat in your dog food would be a good thing compared to the crap they put in most commercial food, as an example eukanuba chicken flavor which was tested by a friend who breeds after they had problems with there breeding bitches and it was found to contain large amounts of hormones that caused miscarriage in dogs. The hormones are given to the chickens to make them grow faster and remain in the meat after death.
I would not feed my dogs any commercial food they have bio chicken, duck and beef off cuts and it works out cheaper than commercial food by a long way.

Re: Any worries about your dog food?
I live in the states, and my mum used to be a horse groomer for a race track. And I remember when one of her horses went blind they shipped her off to be dog food. I don't live so far away from where they actually DO butcher the horses at a dog food plant. So Yes, absolutely they put horse meat in dog food.

We dont eat any processed food , neither does Solly. I am very concerned with what goes into any kind of dog food, manufacturers are not honest. God Knows whats in processed dog food, and after this debacle dont believe whats written on any packet. IMO I think that you all should cook the food yourself or feed raw..

You really can't know what goes into food now days. I wish i was able to feed raw but it wouldn't suit me or lexi at the time being.

I have tried Pixee on a bit of raw, she was always sick. Cooking the food, I did do, but was so time consuming.................. and I was worried if she was missing out on other bits...... you just cant win.

I worry about dog food a lot , more so that what I eat myself sometimes
I would like to feed raw but I don't think I would get it right and would worry they were not getting everything they needed.
I don't worry about horse meat though , it's just a form of protein.

Sadly we aren't going to be able to start our pup off on Raw either. Maybe the occasional happy treat at holidays. I cook a leg of lamb for Easter and we do Turkey and a Ham for Every Yule and Thanksgiving. So I'll more than likely feed it something during those times to replace a meal with a treat as such. other than that Raw wont suit us either.

Dogs are carnivores, meat is what they need. Many people think they need vegetables to have a varied diet, but thats not true.
