Hair loss Empty Hair loss

Post by jackie0362 Tue Jan 29 2013, 15:06

Hi

I'm new to the forum and have a 2 year old blue tri coloured SBT called Jacko! He's a fantastic dog with a great sense of humour and a fabulous personality. I've been reading some of your posts on the forum as Jacko has a hair loss problem that has completely flumaxed our vet, he has a patch on top of his head, between his ears where the hair seems to have broken off, its kind off stubbly as if the hair is about to grow back but it doesn't, he's had it for about 9 months and it now seems to be getting bigger, it doesn't bother him, its not red or itchy, there are no lumps and the skin underneath isn't scaly or dry, i've also recently noticed that he has a few new tiny areas that could possibly be developing into the same thing, its quite bizzarre! I don't actually have any photos of it as yet but will take some tonight and post if I can if that helps! Does anybody have any ideas please? Thanks

Hi & welcome.

Some pics would be useful as hair loss can be one of several things. Have you changed anything recently, food/washing powder etc?

Hi

Yes will take some tonight and post! No not changed anything, it has been there for quite a while and has recently got gradually bigger, the strange thing is that its not falling out from the root, which our Vet says is very strange, she said it looks like he is rubbing his head against something, but we can't think of anything where he can do that and certainly haven't seen him do that. Thanks for your reply

sounds very silly, but have you thought about putting a camera up to eliminate if he is rubbing?

Where does he sleep? Could he be rubbing himself while he's asleep?

Welcome to the forum. I had a Patterdale terrier and she would have rubbed herself against the fence until her her was worn. But as Caryl says, it could be a number of things. Hopefully someone can help when you get pics up. Smile

My staffie, Coco, has exactly the same thing! A patch on her neck which has been there for a few months now, my vet couldnt find anything so sold me some expensive medicated shampoo...which didnt clear it but she smells nice:) It doesnt seem to bother her all so I am not too concerned.
