Hair Loss
Hi can anyone help??
about 6 months ago we had to leave our staff of 12 months then in kennels for a fortnight while we where away on holiday. When we returned to collect him he had lost lots of weight and lost lots of fur on his chest, stomach and behind the ears.
The kennel staff told us he was very stressed for the two weeks we was away.
we thought he would have grown his hair back by now but he still has a very bare chest which looks sore at times, his collar for example rubs after a walk.

Re: Hair Loss
I have moved post to health issues as it may be overlooked in the intro section.
Sorry I cannot help with your problem, not too sure what has happened to your image.
Had the kennel applied anything to the chest area that was sore ??

Re: Hair Loss
Is the area of hair loss around maybe where the collar would be? Do you use a harness?
Logan lost some hair around where his harness was but after a break from it it all grew back. I commented on a post a few days back about something similar. I'll copy it in...

The only thing I would suggest that maybe you could ask your vet is Malassezia. The reason I say this is because a few weeks, maybe a month or so Logan was getting VERY itchy around his ears and sides of his head. He was also licking his feet uncontrollably, until he actually got so much hair on his tongue/throat he was choke!
I brought him to the vet initially about the licking thing months and months ago and they said it wasn't to do with health and it was behaviour. I thought this was a bit odd and didn't totally trust it. So I brought him back to the vets to speak to the vet I always speak to.
He took a swob of his skin, in his ear etc. He told me that Malassezia has been common in Staffies for him. It is a yeast infection where the yeast that exists naturally takes advantage of the host (Logan) and makes him itchy etc. He phoned me later that night to say that he has found Malassezia under the microscope in it's early stage and it is very easy to treat at this stage. However, he said if I hadn't dealt with it he could have experienced hair loss etc.
He gave me a medicine to give him for 7-10 days and it totally went away. Even his paw licking
Maybe you could ask this. I'm not sure if it will help, but I hope it does

Re: Hair Loss
I would say that the hair loss was through anxiety. However I'd have thought it would have grown back by now.
Do you add any supplements to your dog's food?

What do you feed right now? The supplements I add into Zeus's food to help his skin/hair are:
1) Salmon oil - teaspoon in one feed a day
2) Raw egg (mashed up with shell) - 2/3 times a week
3) Apple Cider Vinegar - teaspoon in one feed a day

Re: Hair Loss
All the above are good, plus Yumega Plus is pretty good for coat growth & itchiness...
