Split Pad
Threw a stick for Blue today on our walks and when he come back blood was coming from his foot. Not easy to check with the snow, but couldn't see anything stuck and he was running about fine, so I cut the walk short and got him home. I thought the snow might of stopped the bleeding but it was still bleeding when I git back. Got him to lie down and checked again. He has split one od his pads. He stopped bleeding within mins of not being on it. He seems fine and it hasn't bleed since. Gonna keep an eye on it but any advice to help him.

Re: Split Pad
When Moo did it I rushed her to the vets, but all they do is clean it (salt water/antiseptic wash) and bandaged it up. I had to keep her off it, and keep the dressing dry for a few days, bought some dressing from boots to re-do it every time, and the vets gave me an empty 'drip' bag that tied up over the bandage when we went out. Kept her like this for 3/4 days and then back to normal

Re: Split Pad
Thanks Janey
He bled all the way home like a trail from the canal to my house Got him home. Cleaned it and he was fine, never pulled it away once while I was cleaning and now he has been running around the house like nothing has happened. New carpet last month so keep waiting for it to bleed again. If it does I will have to punch myself in the nose so the dog doesn't get the blame

Re: Split Pad
If it starts again I will bandage it up. Don't wanna put it on now as it has stopped being cleaned and Blue isn't paying it any attension so don't want to draw him too it.
Will he be alright to walk tomorrow? If he doesn't get walked he bounces off the walls

Re: Split Pad
I'd just take care - no racing around (yes, I know he'll hate that!). If he opens it up again you might need to strap it up when he goes out.

Ill take him out tomorrow but no throwing sticks. Just let him have a walk and a sniff.

Re: Split Pad
I know Blue and the second I put a bandage on it he will spend every sec of his day when not walking trying to chew it off. Hopefully it won't open up again and will heal.
Your right though didn't seem to bother him. Hard buggers

Re: Split Pad
We use neosporian to help the cut heal faster and than take her on a route where she is unlikely to damage it any further. Normally a grassy area and avoid concrete. Should be fine in a couple of days

Re: Split Pad
Cheers mate. All snow at moment so no concrete really. Just have to make sure no fetch and stay out of the way away from everyone else for a couple of days.
I'll have to look into that cream, heard you mention it a few times

Be aware of grit also Blue, make sure you clean it whenever he comes in

I'm not sure what your version of it is but it's designed to speed healing and reduce scaring. I've used it for years for myself and my dogs and it works really well and isn't very expensive.

Re: Split Pad
Took Blue out for nearly 2 hours. About an hour in it started again slightly. Was about to cut the walk short when it stopped. Then after it would start again for 2 mins then stop again. Washed his paws when I got home and even though it was only a tiny amount today I think I'll keep him in tomorrow at least and try walking him again on Thursday or Friday

Re: Split Pad
Probably for the best, it does heal in no time

Re: Split Pad
I know just so frustrating when you can't take them out. You don't get the snoring noise you get 30 mins after coming home from a good walk.
