Cut/split paw
Noticed at the end of last week that Ledger was licking his back paw and would randomly limp on checking I finally managed to see that he had cut/split the pad up-between his middle toes it didn't look too bad and he was letting me wipe his paws no problem and look between the toes so I just took to bathing it in salt water when we got back from walks and put some sudocrem on it and he had stopped trying to lick it and had been ok for the last couple of days. But tonight we have gone to go out for his late walk and he just carried his back leg the whole way (ended up just being to the end of the road and back) I have had another look and there is what I can only describe as a small chunk missing as oppose to a cut.
He doesn't seem overly fussed and is paying no attention to it now and walking on it fine in the house but is there anything else home remedy wise I can do? I will call the vet in the morning to see if they recommend antibiotics what with the grit and dirt out on the pavements at the moment

Re: Cut/split paw
You'll probably have to see a vet at first, to check it isn't infected and such, then in my experience you will have to keep it dry, and pop in to see a nurse for a re-dress. Moo split hers on glass, and it was fine, the vets would give me a used drip bag that would tie around the bandage, just had to keep her from being a loony for a week Xx

Re: Cut/split paw
I don't suppose you have any Manuka honey? It's brillaint for healing open wounds!
Other than that, just bathe it & make sure you dry it properly. Put some Sudocrem or Vaseline on it just to stop any infection getting in. If it starts to look swollen or red then a trip to the vets.
If you can afford it, though, the Manuka honey is a bit of a cure-all!

well vet says its not too bad but got some antibiotics to be on the safe side and just to keep it cleaned with salty water. Its obviously causing him some pain as he is holding his foot up most of the time now

Poor guy miley cut her paw on glass in the summer. It wasn't bad we bandaged it after disinfecting with antiseptic and kept it dry and it healed fine hope he gets better soon
