Can anyone help?
The pound I am involved with (and where our Maddie came from) is filling up with staffies again. Some of them have been there for 4 months now, as rescues refuse to take them.
Does anyone here know of a rescue organisation that will take on homeless staffies, or at least be able to organise foster homes? We now have 4 on 'death row' as the lady who manages the pound has done everything in her power to keep them safe (at least 2 should have been pts by now if she was following the rules).
PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP

Re: Can anyone help?
Thank you for the list. I will pass it to the pound just in case there is one on there we have missed! The problem is we have approached all of the rescues we know of in about a 200 mile radius with no luck at all. Bath is full, Bristol is full, Margaret Green isn't taking in dogs (so is also full), Loving Homes is advertising them for us and offering to do homechecks but no luck so far...
Maybe there is a rescue on there that CAN help We shall have a look.
Please cross your fingers for us

Re: Can anyone help?
Hi I volunteer with the same pound as Sarah who did the original post, and we have one male SBT and a female SBT x Boxer (we think) who are desparate. They are in the council pound at the moment and I'm getting quite worried for them.

I'm in the process of trying to add details here (including photos), transportation is not a problem as we have people (including myself) who are willing to assist with that.

Ok, thanks for that.
Will have a word tomorrow at the rescue I foster for - can't guarantee anything as, I'm sure you'll appreciate, the phones went bonkers over Christmas.

Petula (above) and our other dog Donny have been walked together and they were fine, but we have not tried either of them in a kennel with another dog as they have to be kept separate (kennel rules). But it is a question I will put to the volunteers to see what they think.

Hi,
Regarding Petula and Donny - please call Ros on 07849 637862 ASAP.
She runs Animal Helpline Dog Rescue at http://www.homes4dogs.co.uk/ and has agreed, if you are still desperate, to take these two in as long as you can arrange transport to the PE8 (Peterborough) area.
She's expecting your call - just say you're calling in regards to the two staffies at the pound that Keith told her about.
Cheers.

Re: Can anyone help?
fingers crossed it can be sorted , nice one Keith Only wish I lived closer and I would have happily done the transport. If times are not an issue though I could do the journey from Luton to Peterborough on Thursday afternoon / evening if it would help at all, as long as both dogs will travel on rear seats with harnesses and restraints , I would expect to be available from around 15.00 in Luton Thursday

Hi Dave,
Cheers for the offer.
Let's see how the pound and rescue can arrange it and go from there.
By chance, the rescue rehomed a couple of staffies today, hence the space.

What's the delay?
Just had Ros on the phone asking where the dogs are - if you're not coming can you let me know as there are other dogs due to be PTS at other pounds.

Re: Can anyone help?
I'm not sure if there has been a mix up? Petula and Donny do still need a rescue space urgently. The Dog Warden says she mentioned my name and yours to Ros, but was told had no space for bull breeds.

Ros kept spaces back for them, agreed to take them, and has been on the phone to me asking where they are.
She's asked me to chase you up directly as the spaces are about to get filled with PTS risks from other pounds.
EDIT: Just made a phone call - the rescue owner says she spoke to a forum poster who phoned her and who was going to get the warden to call but the warden hasn't spoken to her yet.
Maybe the warden spoke to someone else at the rescue who didn't know about it?

Re: Can anyone help?
Rachel, I do understand! More than half of all the dogs at our pound seem to be unwanted staffies...
I know our warden contacted the rescue the same day and left a message.
So many rescues turn down staffies as they are already bursting with them, and so many people prefer other types to rehome
We are still looking for urgent homes/foster places

Re: Can anyone help?
An update:
One of the death row staffies has been offered a place at a rescue, but we have another dog in so there are two on borrowed time and another that has been pushed up the list.
I don't know what happened with the rescue suggested by Keith, but the spaces fill so quickly...
If anyone fosters with a rescue and feel the need for another dog then please consider one of these poor unwanted dogs.
Of course, there will be a load of half grown puppies entering all the rescues before Easter

Well if I was running the rescue I would have taken them too, the poor little souls.

I'm asking the same thing here, Sarah.
I go into the staffy kennels, then the collie ones, then the lurcher ones, then the bulldog ones, then the.....
and just keep thinking: "How are you here?"

It's a shame it didn't work out this time, but thanks to everyone who tried to help. We won't give up until it's too late.
Donny and Petula are still the most urgent cases and really need out asap to keep them safe.
On a positive note, both of them were tested with an 8yr old child last week, and were deemed to be 'child friendly'. So that is another plus point in their favour.

Mad Dog Woman - those posters are lovely, thank you
I shall pass them on the the others and we will use them, if that is OK with you.
How about you pop over to the FOSS page on FB and talk to us on there? I'm sure sharing the dogs further will only be a good thing, and we can all like and share your dog page too.
Oh, and Donny and Petula have until Friday
