sleeping arrangements
Since been small I have always had my dogs sleep in my room it just happened never questioned this. Now as a mum I have, when ryan was first born tyke use to sleep on the landing as he was in a cot but when he went into a big boys bed he had to go into the kitchen as ryan was up and down and plus 'safety' reasons! Now since its been very cold tyke has been upstairs and we put him in his bed in our room and last few times we have woke up and tyke is in with ryan (not snuggled up just laid at the bottom of the bed) Ryan's been happily playing if he has got up and tyke has been zonked in the bed. now you see it every were and iv seen pics on the forum of kids fast out with there dog. Am I been irresponsible hear? its just something I have always known and grew up with!!

Re: sleeping arrangements
Only you can make that judgement . Tommy and Tilly both wander where they want through the night but Jenny is 13 , do you feel comfortable or not ? Do you sleep lightly ? Is Ryan ok with Tyke or does he prod and poke ?

Re: sleeping arrangements
I do feel comfortable its just ryans just mentioned is tyke sleeping with me tonight and just got me thinking. He really good is ryan with tyke, no leg pulling or trying to take his eyes out etc yea since having ryan am a really light sleeper. have you always had dogs and if so how was jenny with them when she was young?

Re: sleeping arrangements
Jenny would be around 4 before we had a regular sleeper Dusty our old BC X and TBH we never considered a problem , he always laid in her room guarding her , any noises through the night or if she moved noisily in her bed he would be up and going mental and thats just how its always been. Tilly retires with her halfway through the night now (about 3), Tommy stays with us as he likes the bit extra bed he wins. If you are doubtful about the dog then close the door or use a safety gate

Re: sleeping arrangements
And sorry to ask but when you mention "Is Tyke sleeping with me tonight" is that with anxiousness or not ??

Re: sleeping arrangements
My dog Judy used to sleep on the bottom of my bed when I was a child with no problems at all. If anything she would just lie there and guard, me I was OK with it so Mum and Dad were too.

Re: sleeping arrangements
It could be anxiousness or is he looking forward to him on his bed? Like others have said if you can trust him on the childs bed then ok. If you cant then rearrange his sleeping habits

Re: sleeping arrangements
no ryan was not asking as he were worried we were just talking bed time routine and he just asked. it makes me feel better knowing tyke would opt to sleep in ryans room as like you say an added bit of protection, we did not get him for a guard dog but as a family pet but as would my partner he would fight tooth and nail if any one came in but as dogs can hear more than us that he would alert us if this happened. Iv never known anything different and again am lucky that Ryan knows the boundries with tyke. I know you can never say never but yea i trust them both. Ryan was up through the night and i tried kicking tyke into our room much to ryans upset who wanted tyke back on the bed

Re: sleeping arrangements
I can only tell you what I'd do , not advise > And if it were me and you are happy then let them have their bond . It's not the same as normal daytime activities and to a point a hard call (based on general advice ) but for me if I'm comfortable then the dogs sleep where they choose
