Sadly its not as good as it looks , this was a 40 winks job . Up until 2 minutes ago he was crying his heart out in his crate but now supermummy (childminder and satffy minder extraodinaire) has packe d his crate with blankys and toys and voila .......peace. (Tilly went into the room when she heard him crying and then though sod this and ran back into our room and is now fast asleep on our bed)
By rights he is going to be my daughters dog and she wants the crate in her room until he is ok through the night and gets a free roam , so she's going to have to learn the hard way to put up with the little problems, the noise and clean up the little accidents. She is on the forum and I've told her to use it
Trying not to tap the keys too hard for fear of waking him up.
Tilly had some real sulks (proper real staring out of the window in the car and refusing to acknowledge he was there) but she is coming round slowly , just a bit rough at the moment for him , so a watchful eye required but nothing to be concerned about.

Re: Who's been sleeping in my bed !!!
My daughter is fast asleep and the poor little bugger is sobbing and howling his heart out in his crate Trying to ignore it and hope he'll stop and nod off again but not looking promising. Tonight's a write off but anyone got any good ideas for tomorrow. Tilly did whimper and then settle when we didn't go to her but he seems a little more persistent

I think it's normal. I think going to him will only make matters worse. Might just have to stick it out.
Good luck mate....wish I could help

I know i'm probably doing wrong but I think he's missing his buddies , just gone and stroked him back to sleep and will probably end up on puppy duty all night , he's very vocal with his howling and a little concerned we may upset the neighbours so doing the wrong things at the moment . Think tomorrow I will try and settle him more with Tilly , if we can get her to sleep next to him I think he will settle well (I hope or its just like having a baby again)

Re: Who's been sleeping in my bed !!!
It's normal behaviour really and the first few nights are always hard. A blanket over the crate, a radio playing softly next to it, a hot water bottle and a blanket or some article of clothing with a familiar smell could all be helpfull

We've got a blanky in from his litter , that's it for the moment and i'm on night duty , out to buy a radio though tomorrow, its a tad difficult as his crate is set up in my daughters bedroom as that will be where he will sleep when he's a little older

It's tough love, but leave him to it. He'll cry for maybe 3 or 4 nights on & off but then he'll settle. If you keep going to him he'll never stop!

Dave as Caryll says you will have to pretend you can't hear it, you will make a rod for your own back otherwise.
Kita was worse than Izzy when she was little and it broke my heart to hear her but I knew if I gave in........
Of course they will cry as this is all new to him, new sights, sounds, smells and he's used to cuddling with his litter mates. Hopefully it will only be a couple of nights.
When we bought Izzy home, we used those moveable kiddy gates to separate the laundry from the rest of the house and another one from the hall way to the family room where Kita slept. I would lay half on the floor and half in Izzy's bed cuddling her till she fell asleep. After the first night or two she settled all night.
She had spent a week at the other guys house with his two dogs when she first left the breeder and I'm not sure what they did.
Maybe by the time we got her she was more used to it anyway and that's why she was quieter than Kita.
Make sure you allow Tilly her own space as well, she may not want Tommy at her all the time and she will probably have her nose out of joint a little. It took Kita about two days before she let Izzy sit on the same bed/mat as her. She would get up and walk off when Izz sat down and she would ignore her outside as well.
He is so gorgeous

Yes she does Caryll, she is jenny3834 (don't worry I'm not silly enough to let her get mod rights) , she's only been on a couple of times since joining but trying to encourage her to get on and read up. She is trying hard to impress us , but I think she won't be able to do it without us intervening. Mum is the best as she just takes the new child attitude. I did break the rules last night but I think I'm going to get a little radio tonight on low and try that , he was going full pelt howling . He's made more noise in one night than Tilly has made in almost 2 years.
At one point I fell asleep on the floor next to his crate , he couldn't see me as we had covered his crate, all I did was put my hand in under the cover to stroke him a little until he went off again. I'm putting it mainly down to it being his first night and see where we go from here
