my own peronal hell
i have a shockingly BAD week ahead of me. I have non-stop 14 hour days for wednesday until saturday afternoon. I cant leave Romeo home alone,s o i have had to ask a friend to take him for me..... its heart breaking for me!
I have only ONCE been home with out Romeo. Romeo is always in my bed, for gods sakes he shares my pillow when we snuggle up at night.... its going to feel like losing an arm
i know he will be fine. he is going to stay at his baby sitters place that he normally goes to and he loves it there.... bur still.... selfish me does not want to be without my romie!
I cant wait for this to be over
Also, dont you hate it when you have to deal with people who dont see dogs as living creatures of value... and more like a TV set or something. I had a fight with a co-worker the other week because i mentioned to a coworker i was talking to that i was very worried about my money and such, and then his nosy parker buts in and says "why dont you just get rid of that stupid dog, its just a dog" of cause that set me off. I pointed out that its not so simple like that and that before they tell me how to live my life they should deal with their own first. they too complain about never having any money, but they are always going out for sushi for lunch and buying new clothes and live in a VERY rich part of town even though it clearly isout of their price rang... and here they are acting the cats mother and telling me to toss my romeo!
They say to me "you can always get another one latter"
NO, how about NO you idiot! there is no other romeo! its like saying to a person "how about you give up your baby, you can always make another!"

Aww, sounds like you're having a tough time, Taryn. Loads of hugs & good wishes coming your way. ><
And you can never explain to someone who hasn't had a dog (or doesn't see them as companions) what it's like to be attached to them. But at least you know that everybody here understands!

You poor thing, some people are so insensitive! Your boy will be fine and you can have some special time when you are finished your shifts

I hope the next few days pass very quickly for you, at least you know that Romeo is safe and happy, still this does not make it any easier for you though. Just think of the very warm welcome you will get on your return to him on Saturday.
Some people dont think before opening their mouths do they, silly so and so's, do not take any notice of them, perhaps if they had an animal that loved them they would understand how you feel.

Re: my own peronal hell
they are not... an animal person. they make alot of fun at me for being a vegetarian and such... i rather hate when they talk about my dog like he's a pair of shoes or something, actually they value their shoes more then my dog... so i wouldnt be suprised that they dont understand... i think there has to be a little something wrong with some one if they cant see the value in other living creatures lives besides eating them and wearing them.

People like that are shallow creatures. They are just jealous of the pleasure you get from your dog and the fact you have ethics and morals. They eat their sushi and swank around in their fancy shoes (I know the type lol) because they are empty inside and get their kicks from showing off and belittling people! Dog V Shoes I know what I would pick!

Hi Taryn, treat it like Romeo is having a holiday, don't feel guilty, you'll be ok.

Re: my own peronal hell
Don't forget dogs are very adaptable and as long as they are being entertained and amused they don't have time to feel sad. Plus, they don't have memories like we do, so they don't sit there thinking about the good times you had at the park recently. For him, it will be like you stepped out of the room and then came back straight away. As for your colleague, pity him for he was born with a flaw in not being able to love animals. Our brains release oxytocins when interacting with each other and with some animals, clearly your colleague is damaged in some way!

Hi Taryn, dog apart, if you feel it is that bad at work can you talk to your line manager? it does not do to have to work lwith idiots. If that is no good, can you issue a grievance in writing? Or seek advice from your Trade Union (if anyone remembers them).

Re: my own peronal hell
He'll be OK, dogs don't seem to focus on the missing part, they make the most of what they do have, and if Romeo's with someone he's good with, he'll be happy, and then extra-happy when you see him and get to cuddle up with him again and as for the people who see dogs like that, well...no-one understands it truly until they have a dog, but even then, it's just not in some people's personalities to connect with something that isn't another person. To them, that's the true definition of a living thing, and everything else they forget is alive rather than a thing to control.

Dogless people don't understand. You cannot give up your baby like that! Good for you to stick up for yourself!

Must admit I only relate to it when I'm at home , as probably like you Ben , spend quite a few nights away on business and have to sleep alone but I never sleep properly alone and I'm pretty sure it's not the wife. It just seems really strange having a mahoosive bed to myself. Think I should only sleep in rooms with a small single bed and put a row of pillows down one side, stick the TV on top of me and I will be fine

I know exactly how you feel without your dog - my Densil has gone on his mini break with the dog sitters who look after him whilst we are away on holiday (just so they get used to each other). I miss him terribly but seeing all the comments I realise he is probably having a great time and not missing me at all. Looking forward to him coming home tomorrow though. I am now retired and at home all day so have been going out somewhere for the day just so I don't have to be in te empty house.
