Rehomed a stray
Hi, this weekend a gorgeous little staffy followed my mum home from the shop, she had a tag on that said she was chipped, ook her to the vets to get it scanned but details werent registered, we went on facebook etc. anyhoo, after lots of trying we eventually tracked down the owners, she had been rehomed last thursday, and managed to run away straightaway, and was lost for 2 days. long story short, she is now ours, they are letting us keep her. she is 6-8 months old, and not house trained and hasnt been on a lead. She jumps up on the sofas and jumps up and bites at my coat whilst walking...Any hints & tips would be most welcome. She doesnt seem do her business much outside so cant 'praise' her for it...i put down those piddle pads but she chews it up...i am willing to have patience with her and eep her forever, she will not be moved to yet another home!!! thanks x

Re: Rehomed a stray
Welcome sounds like she hasn't had any training at all. Just read through all the topics on the forum (well, not literally all of them, but the ones of interest) and see what you can find. As for the house-training, if she never goes outside for you to praise her, take her outside. Every hour if you have to, just stay out there with her until she does something (could take a while, be patient ) and then give her LOTS of praise when she finally does. From there she'll soon learn.

Re: Rehomed a stray
Hi Thank you all.
Yes she is my first staffy (but not my first dog), my word she has so much energy. she is only 6 months old so is still a baby. she never stops, we go for a long walk/run, chasing her toys etc, and she is still all giddy and jumping up when we get back. she never seems to chill. this could be her still getting used to us and all the new attention she is now getting. We have only had her 4 days.
she is still messing in the house, but we have had a breakthorugh where she has done a couple of 'toilets' outside which i was so pleased about, giving her lots of praise. she now sits for a treat and also i will ask her to sit before throwing her toy. she is a quick learner.
The only bugbear for me is her jumping up at us when we walk her. and she grabs with her teeth, i know she isnt trying to bite, but its a good job its an old thick coat that i wear. we turn our back on her until she stops, at which point she just sits and waits, which is good, but as soon as you say good girl to her, she gets all giddy and spoils it by jumping up!!!!
But i lover her already and we will get there.

Re: Rehomed a stray
She sounds a real character!
Try just giving quiet praise, or just slip her a treat rather than talk to her when you want her to be calm. Might help.
