Sore armpit due to harness
About a week ago, I noticed that Zeus's left armpit was very sore due to the nylon harness which weve been using on him. It started off with a little rash and loss of fur, it's now got worse even though I've been applying sudocrem on it.
We've brought him a new non pull harness which has fleece straps which go under his armpits, so that will eliminate the chafing problem. However, we can't use it until his armpits get better.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to heal? We brought a dog boot to cover his paw so he can't scratch it, but he just kept going for the boot so that didn't work out.

Re: Sore armpit due to harness
I'd personally make sure it's had a wash with salt water, rinse it and dry it properly and rub a little coconut oil in it as it's got antibacterial properties and stops it itching. But the skin heals really quick with it to.

Hi ella, thanks for the brilliant advice. Would I use 100% pure coconut oil which is used for cooking, or coconut hair oil??
Just went to the local and there were two types, I grabbed the 100% pure coconut oil for cooking as the hair oil had all sorts of chemicals in there

As in the cooking oil!
Just get a tiny amount in your hands and it will melt very quickly and rub it in and around the sore area

Oh it's also very good for rubbing through all their coat especially in winter when the central heating and weather can make their fur dry

Re: Sore armpit due to harness
I'd put a little bit on each day, you only need a tiny amount as it goes far once melted

Sudocrem is good, I know you might like to use a harness but maybe use a collar until it is healed

Re: Sore armpit due to harness
yes but you don't want dogs eating sudacrem, and CO is much better and natural
