does everybody always get there dogs jabs done every year

When my dogs turn 7 then I stop imunisation up until then I have it done every year

I don't think it's always necessary, health wise, but the insurance companies insist, so yes, I do get them done every year. At the moment I'm trying to persuade my insurance company that a titer test to show the level of immunity is sufficient. I'm waiting for a reply................

Last year I think mine was around £45, but my memory's not too good!

The Titer tests cost around the same, so I wouldn't be saving any money, but at least I wouldn't be pumping un-needed drugs into my dog.

Because she was a rescue of sorts her first jabs (I had to have them done as the previous owner wasn't too fourthcoming) where done as amnesty jabs, ie only paid a fraction of the price, so her boosters I have know idea.

A vet told somebody I know (who then told me) that they are unnecessary after the first 2 (or was it 3?) years. The problem is that we have quite a lot of holidays and Buster is only accepted into the kennels with a valid booster certificate. I'd rather put Buster into the kennels when we are on holiday than leave him with son, because son goes to work all week and lies in bed all morning at the weekend.

There are those who say they're not necessary after the first puppy vaccinations! The trouble is, some last a lifetime, some last a year, some last 2 or 3 years. So you need the Titer tests to show which disease your dog is still immune to, and which ones you need to revaccinate for.

Great advice Caryll. It's the sort of thing that the vets should make public -but of course it would result in a reduced income for them. (Sometimes I don't trust vets )

Well, it wouldn't reduce their income, because you'd still need Titer tests every year to test their immunity levels, and the Titer tests would cost about the same as the jabs!

I'll ley you know what Sainsbury's insurance says about my proposal, but I doubt they'll accept it.

Mine done every year ,have heard about them being unescessary after a certain period but no conclusive evidence i know of so wont take risk

I'll be getting taz and Cassie boostered soon, My vet usually charges £42 but i pay £9 monthly for flea/worming/vaccinations/booster and a 12 point health check not just the usual eyes, ears, and mouth checks.

I did some research on this while Biddy was still with us and found that from many studies they recommended boosters every 3rd year which of course the vets wont tell you and then non at all from 8 as risks developed. We did this with Bid though she never went in kennels or abroad and was a very healthy dog we never claimed on her insurance.

Just got back from the vets. It was £33

Good price, certainly cheaper than mine!

ye i hit lucky iv used the same vet for years then she sold out to vets4pets so now iv got the same vet personal service at a commercial price

I do mine every 2/3 years but always make sure that I do the initial vaccination course and one booster a year later for each dog.

The problem with that, is that it would invalidate any insurance policy you have, as they all insist on yearly vaccinations!

This is what the breeder recommended when we picked up Bodhi.

Yes, and that's all well & good, but it invalidates any insurance!

I know, nightmare isn't it. I don't actually have insurance but after seeing some of the great deals people have got recently I'm very tempted.
