One week to go!!
Suddenly it's just over a week until we bring the wee fella home and couple of pieces of advice needed.
Can you recommend a starter collar and lead and harness, bearing in mind the only sizeable pet store here in Aberdeen is PAH.
If I buy on-line what size do I order? He will be 9 weeks.
We have three cats, all of which are pretty laid back and unlikely to administer even a light scratch to put him in his place. Have any of you had experience in this area in how to create harmony from what will be a pretty traumatic time for the moggies?
I suspect the cats will spend a lot of time upstairs initially but would prefer an equilibrium to be established asap.
I've learned a lot from this forum so I know you guys won't let me down.

Re: One week to go!!
When I introduced a cat with a pup I just let them sort it out themselves. They were always supervised and the cat was decalwed.

Re: One week to go!!
pets at home have a good range of suitable starter collars and leads , you don't need anything really heavy duty at his age , we got this one for Tommy with a lead to match , the spots soon scratch off though , he's got an Ezydog now which is a goiod hard wearing collar

If the cats are there already the pup will accept this and them , we had 4 cats and our last dog came after them she seem to know straight away they were not a threat socialize him straight away to the cats .

Re: One week to go!!
Yeah, I'd suggest to socialise them to the cats straight away, just obviously under supervision. Maybe put him on a lead for the very first meeting, so if either one of them dislikes the other, he can be brought away? You must be really excited

Soooo excited. By the time we get him it will have been 4 WEEKS since we first saw him.
Haven't had a dog for nearly 20 years due to work commitments, so have been boning up on the latest training techniques... Training the GSD by John Cree, The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell and in the middle of The Culture Clash by Joan Donaldson......my head's spinning but determined to get it right. At least being retired we'll have the time to spend on him.

Re: One week to go!!
Aww good luck with everything!
I brought Morpheus' collar and lead from Pets at Home in the puppy section. Just ask a colleague to show you (if you have a puppy section! Mines quite small and still has one). They're smaller than the "Small" collars and lead sets we sell, and fit Morpheus with a decent bit of growing room. The "Small" collars at their smallest are loose on him and he's quite a substantial pup.
If in doubt, you could buy one of each and return the other one if necessary. Or maybe ask the breeder to measure for you before he comes home?
Loving the name Bacchus though, that would've been my other choice but Morpheus, Dream Maker did it for me ;D

Re: One week to go!!
I used the P@H nylon padded collar, lead and harness and just got the bigger size when needed as it was cheap enough!

Thanks Sophie. Morpheus is so original. Isn't it great when you come across a name that just hits you. We have an apricot point siamese boy called Rufus. I was listening to a Rufus Wainright album and it just seemed right. Bacchus was going to be Reuben hence my username but I came across Bacchus and knew straight away, and my wife agreed although she had been very keen on Reuben.

Re: One week to go!!
5 sleeps. Can see me standing at the breeders door at this time on Monday listening for her alarm going off.
On the other hand, from what I've read on this forum, perhaps I should try to get as much sleep as possible while I can

Re: One week to go!!
They didnt have a harness that was small enough for vinnie at first, he has a small one from pets at home now though - and we got a tiny collar and lead from the range for like £3 which lasted him fine untill he could wear his harness
