15 week pup Empty 15 week pup

Post by cm_851 Sun Jan 05 2014, 07:30

HI, I have just got Junior home from the rescue centre. He is 15 weeks and was only at the dogs trust for a week . I have been told that he was bullied by an older staffy from a pup and that was why he was handed in.

We got him home and he seems to be settling in really well. He spent the first night in his crate and didn't cry at all.

Just looking for some advice on training and how to help him settle in. He does seem to sleep a hell of a lot. I'm not sure if it's because he has only just got home or of it is his nature but he isn't too playful yet, just loves a nap lol!

Hi, you'll find everything you need to know on here it's a great site, and everyone is very helpful. All you need to do is ask. Once he settles in and get in hyper mode you'll want him to sleep again lol Smile

Welcome Smile

It's very normal with young pups to sleep alot,i use to think mine was boring when i brong him back all he wanted to do was sleep,i later learnt that i should of appreciated that more  Laughing now he can be quite hyper and attention seeking  Laughing

The fact hes sleeping well shows he is settling in and feeling comfortable in his new home which is great, there is great advice and links around this site or just ask for a specific question

Even a short stay in kennels can be exhausting, especially for a pup! Whenever i've take fosters home they've slept for days.. Any specific advice you were looking for?

As stated above, it's normal to sleep a lot at that age. Also he will still be finding things a little strange at first, then it will be sleep, hyper, sleep, hyper and you'll look forward to the sleep bit. Laughing Laughing
Positive reinforcement is definitely the way to go for a well adjusted family member. You'll get all the advice you need on this forum, the people are friendly and willing to share their experiences. Bacchus is my first staffie and I have found their advice invaluable.
First piece of advice......get some pics on here or you will be in trouble. We all love pics.

I put Eve for a sleep at various times of the day, she gets up has her breakfast then a poo and wee then a small play and is put in her cage for an hour to sleep, then she is brought out for more play a drink she is out this time for about 3 hours then she is put back in again for a sleep, then she is out after another hour for more play food and stays out until bed time or if I get called away, That way she gets to rest and have a sleep which I feel they need, but she also knows she goes to sleep when in there so when we go out she wont get stressed, at least that's the idea,

Thanks for the advice. He does seem to be settling well.  As I was posting this message he was trying to eat the curtains!

I took him out earlier and he interacted with some of the other dogs really well which is great. I'll be sure to ask if I need any help, I've had a look round the site and their does seem to be some great stuff on here.

Ive tried to post some photos so fingers crossed

See, you're catching on. Big Grin  Lovely pics. He's a beautiful wee boy and big for 15 weeks. Great to see from your pics that he is very attentive. That's a real bonus when it comes to training.

oh he is a cutie patootie, Jed is 12 weeks old and some days he just sleeps and sleeps and i cant wait for him to wake up and play, other days he is active most of the day and hardly sleeps or sometimes he sleeps and sleeps and comes alive late at night, i never know from one day to the next how much he will sleep but he does like to sleep a lot and gets a little grumpy and makes funny little noises when he is really tired and insisting on following me around everywhere! I am sure once he has settled in and got used to a routine he will be up and at em in no time  Big Grin
