Tips on introducing puppy to 2 year old female Staff.
Hi guys!
Morpheus comes home on Sunday 16th. Super excited but also super nervous.
I'm looking for any tips on introducing him to my 2 year old girl.
When I pick him up, I'll take her out of the car (her territory) and then put him bum first to her so she can sniff him. He will be in a crate for the hour journey home, and she will be on the bed next to him so they can sniff and interact but also, can't do anything that would majorly distract my driving or hurt one another if it all does go wrong (which it won't, positive thinking!).
Anything will be of great help, but also if anyone has introduced two where the older dog isn't always the nicest pea in the pod. She has quite a few dog friends she trusts and plays nice with after walks together and gradual introduction but she has a real distaste towards 'cocky' labradors who like to push their luck.. They do say Staffy's don't say no to a challenge!
Also she hasn't been spayed (yet, it will happen). But he won't be castrated for a few years until he's fully developed.
She's a very confident madam, so I hope she won't ruin this lovely experience but doing something stupid!
Thanks for reading, I know it's a bit of an essay.
xx
Oh and for the enjoyment, the latest picture of my little man.

Re: Tips on introducing puppy to 2 year old female Staff.
When I got my pup, my girl was 15mths old and soppy to the point of stupid, so when we bougt Tank home at 8 weeks we literally just bought him in, put him on the floor and off they went, no probs, my girl accepted him absolutely fine.
However, depending on tempremant, it's a good idea to
Introduce on neutral ground, to avoid territorial behaviours.
I'm sure others will be able to offer advise too, but good luck, Morpheous is a cracking looking blue xx

If you can get something like a blanket with the pup's scent on it to bring home so your dog will be familiar with the scent before they meet.

Thanks and yeah, I have a feeling it won't be that easy..
She's always been weary of other dogs, rescue syndrome when I got her at 5 months. She had been shut inside a small flat surrounded by cats and never taken outside nor socialized. 5kg underweight for her age, was in an awful state. Owners got rid of her because they couldn't handle her..
Then in January she was attacked by a red setter and her ear got ripped open, hence now slightly on edge with all dogs so it's one of those "can go either way" situations.

That's a really good idea, it's a shame I didn't have that advice earlier..
She always came with us when we visited him, she stayed in the car though but we always came back stinking of that "puppy poopy slobber" smell. She gives us a thorough inspection every time we get back into the car.
I think it'll be good to a degree that a puppy is also not a threat, so she doesn't have to be on edge.

Make sure not to fuss over the new pup too much as well to avoid any jealousy issues.

Good plan, she gets really jealous when my Mum's dog gets on the bed with myself and my other half, tries to push him off ha ha! Exactly why the last few weeks we've been training her to sleep in her own bed now, instead of in the bed which I sorely made the mistake of doing at first..

Ours doesn't like it when we pay attention to other dogs either. Just make sure to supervise them and everything should be fine. It might also be a good idea to take them for a short walk or let thme interact in the yard for a bit before taking them inside if possible.

Nothing wrong with lists. I use them all the time so I won't forget things

well I've just done exactly what you are doing now and definitely exchange cloths blankets with scent. We had a proper sulk from Tilly when we got him (we took her with us and she spent the whole 1.5 hr journey home staring at the door panel of the car refusing to look at anyone.
We just let them get together and sort out their issues from day one , but Tilly wouldn't take no rubbish she also knoew he was a pup so was quite gentle in the telling off. Tommy on the other hand just saw Tilly as a big chew toy and sometimes still does.
They get on pretty well now , have the occasional spat over a toy or something or Tommy bites one of her nipples (she definitely doesn't like that one) but Tommy is a really confident and annoying dog.
We always keep them separate when not being supervised but I think as long as you're there to stop the big arguments they have to lay their own ground rules so each other know where they stand so let them get on with it, and lastly be warned even as puppies they play rough , expect to hear growling and bared teeth its all part of the fun

Brilliant bit of advice there, thank you. And yeah, I've heard it when we were watching/playing with all the pups together. They also have a blue french bull dog, 8 weeks who they've introduced into the litter to play so was interesting to see how he responded to him, pretty well I have you.
Thank you!

Re: Tips on introducing puppy to 2 year old female Staff.
You're welcome Sophie , had to be honest and the first couple of weeks I was really wondering when I saw the way Tommy got stuck into Tilly, if Tilly hadn't been so gentle with him I would have been really panicking but after a few weeks it just got less and less and now we can watch them wrestling in the garden for hours. It's great when they get on , the whole walking thing with Tommy was a piece of cake because he just shadowed Tilly everywhere and still does, we could let him off the lead and the only time he won't be with her is if he thinks he is straying too far away from me or jen (my daughter) and then he will come back to us
