Skin issues... Tips? (photo heavy)
Good evening everyone!
Nikes skin seems to be improving. Currently I'm giving her regular baths, using a medicated conditioner and weak salt water rinse. Also using sudocrem on a few of the bumps. Has made a huge difference to her nose. There was a lumpy scab and that's fallen off, now it's just pink and bald....
She still scratches at her belly a bit. No rash as such there but her white chest fur has a rusty tinge. I hear that can be caused by excess licking/scratching.... Any ideas?

Yes, the brownish colour may well be caused by licking. Sounds like she is getting better, the sudocreme will give the skin a chance to heal. Please keep us updated on her progress.

It looks like shes got a skin yeast infection.
Is there an odour coming from her discolored fur areas ??

No odour, thank goodness, but I still wouldnt rule out a yeast infection. The photo of her chest looks worse than it is, her actual skin there looks fine, it's just the fur. The scabby bits on her legs and nose have greatly improved since bringing her home from the shelter but they still have a way to go. The vet said they were just allergies and at this stage not to worry.... I'm not convinced. I'm sure it's not life threatening, but no one likes to be itchy!!
I'm trying to keep her as dry as possible, she is inside 90% of the time and after she comes back in I dry her feet with a towel. Nike is on antibiotics at the moment so if it is yeast those could just make it worse?!

Has Nike had skin scrapes done for a definitive diagnosis ?
Looks sore bless him.
I use sudocrem between Diesels toes at night especially if she's had a bath that day or been in the rain.

Antibiotics are good but the buggers kill off the bodies friendly bacteria too.
I would give her some live natural yogurt to put the friendly bacteria back into her system.
And if you can get some Thornits i would rub some of this powder onto her chest.
Even if there is no odour a yeast infection cant be ruled out.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!
We have been to the vet, skin scrapings done.... And........ Nothing but a little bacteria on her belly, feet and chest. Ears have a minor yeast infection. So.... Antibiotics for her skin, medication for her ears and check back in two weeks.
Bacteria found on her could be secondary due to irritation from allergies. We've got more investigating to do!

Ouch Is she itching a lot? For allergies or bad skin with the dogs that I work with I usually start with a change of diet, medicate them with piriton for the itching and either a steroid or antibiotic temporarily to heal the skin, then use malaseb for bathing 2-3 times weekly to soothe. Oatmeal baths are brilliant for itchy skin also, you can make your own or buy it in a shampoo Which antibiotics is she on by the way?
