My 11 week old staffy , Louie has now calmed down nipping at our hands and feet but when we try to pick him up to put him in time out when hes been really naughty, he growls at us , trys to bite and shows his teeth!! Is this puppy behaviour? any advice please :-<

Re: New behaviour
I've not experienced that one before. Is he injured or sick perhaps? Have you been handling him before without a problem?

Re: New behaviour
Yes, my Dempsey did that! Just ignore it & hold him so that he can't bite & then firmly put him in time out (crate, bed, naughty spot, whatever you use). If necessary, give a firm "Ah, ah!" He's at that stage where he's feeling more confident & is pushing the boundaries.
Don't worry, it will stop!

Snap! Hence why I always have female pets! Gotta have some femininity around the house!

I find a lot of pups do that. How are you lifting it? You should try to do it naturally, by the scruff of the neck, but put your hand under their bum to support them

Re: New behaviour
Saffy doesn't bite as such when I pick her up, sometimes if she's really off her rocker she does, she thinks it's a game! Which is rather annoying!
The growling and that sounds like he's pushing his boundaries to see what he can get away with! Little tyke! Saffy will bark at me in a similar fashion. I can only tell you what I would do and if Saf was growling and trying to snap at me, I'd still go ahead and pick her up regardless. Because otherwise I think she'd cotton on pretty quick that growling and snapping stops me from putting her in to timeout! Eventually she'd learn that, that behaviour doesn't work. And I say eventually because it may take months! Haha!
It is painful when they bite and nip! I'm still getting it now and usually what I do is very loudly shout 'OUCH' but in a very deep, drawn out way. It stops her, for that moment. But some days, if feel like I'm saying it every 2 mins!
Also if she's really crazy, I get the ole water pistol out! It's enough to stop her in her tracks but tbh I try not to use it too much as I reserve it for when she's after my cat! Lol

You will not hurt him at all, at that age their skin is still very stretchy. Just never do it by the scruff alone, always have the hand to support. Hope it helps.

Re: New behaviour
When yu pick him up do you just reach over from the back and grab him? Maybe coming from the front so he can see you will help, he might just not like being grabbed unexpectedly when he can't see it coming.

Re: New behaviour
Thank god it's not just me, I was thinking Loki was being a bossy little dictator I think that's what it is though, pushing boundaries. Loki only does it when I pick him up if he's in a playful/hyperactive mood, but I just keep him there until he stops so he knows that growling at me will get him nowhere.
