Funny looking claw - any ideas?

Hi there. Lily has a strange looking claw on the inside of her right foot - she hasn't got a corresponding one on the other foot. It doesn't look like her other claws as its very thin and needle like. Anyway, just today she has started licking it and won't leave it alone. I am going to take her to the vets tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had any ideas. It doesn't look like the dew claw pictures on Google

Have you uploaded it onto photobucket? If you have, hover your mouse over the pic & you'll see a drop down menu appear. Click the bottom line (the IMG code) and it should say "copied". The you can paste it here.

you can host a photo here it may be more simple. Use the little button on the panel above the chat box (its the one that looks like it ha a floppy disk in it)

Can you tell by the picture in the avatar - may be a bit small. It the claw on the right. If not I will try Hayley's suggestion

It looks like a dew claw - has it split?

It really would be easier if it was bigger. Give the photobucket another go.

It doesn't look like it has split, just looks like it a very thin needle like thing and its sticking out at an angle. I'll have another go at photobucket.

I have got as far Select Photos and videos but can't get past that, sorry. I am going to change my avatar back now as it looks a bit silly. I'll wait until tomorrow and see what the vet says. Pity really as its quite odd looking, but thanks for trying. I will get my daughter to show me how to do photobucket for any future ailments I may need to post.

In any case, it just look slike a dew claw to me from the avatar. I don't think it's anything to worry about, they can sometimes split and be annoying but its just a matter of clipping them.

Any news from the vet?

It was a dew claw and he said she had damaged it at some point and it was probably giving her some discomfort rather than pain. He said he would trim it but what he actually did was pull it out and cauterised it - he said he told me he would trim it for my benefit!! She was fine though and she never reacted -he gave her a shot of tetanus and antibiotics and that was that. He is a really nice vet and he absolutely loves Lily - he said she has the look of the delicate about her. Not something you usually hear said about a Staffie

Glad its sorted, they can be a pain in the bum so getting it removed is the best way to go
