Eating Poo Empty Eating Poo

Post by Fozzy33 Mon Jul 02 2012, 08:24

Sorry if this is repetative but perhaps if it is, somebody can send me the link to the appropriate forum entry!!.

Poppy is now 6 months old, the last few weeks she is trying to eat the cats poo.. we are militant and "leave" is used and she will do as she is told as long as we catch her.

I have read a few things about this, re: cat eating different food and ocne digested poppy like others eat it????..

Poppy is fancinated and also wormed regularaly to prevent the known worms etc..

I'm just after some further advice how to prevent the poo eating and no i'm not getting rid of rescus cats!! lol...

I think it is something he will grow out of. When they are young and still with their moms and siblings they will eat it too keep the den clean. If he were eating his own poo you could add an additive to the food to make it less appealing.

Have you tried moving the litter box to a place he can't get to?

Blue never touches stools of other animals when out but he will polish off anything in a litter tray. In the end we just had to move it upstairs and put a baby gate on the bottom of the stairs to stop him going up.

i've had a similar problem with zeus ever since i got him at 8 weeks, up until now when hes 5 months old. he won't go near other dogs/cats poo.. but he'll always eat his own! tried everything in the book for it but im just hoping that he does what everyones been telling me, and grow out of it!

They don't grow out of it, well not IME anyway. You just have to be one step ahead and make sure you get to the litter tray to empty it before they do!
