staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
So just now whilst walking my dog an off lead staffie runs over growling teeth showing, unfortunately my boy DID react and badly, so this lead to a full on staffie on staffie attack, I couldn't believe it my sweet gentle boy who's never reacted like this seemed to of flipped out was so scary I'm wondering if this is because of the spaniel incident 2 days ago. The owner was very apologetic and leashed his dog immediately but what caused by boy to react like this7

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
As you said, the previous attack was still very much in his mind - get your retaliation in first!
I had the same thing happen with Dempsey after his ear was ripped by a dobe - every dog he came across for about a fortnight was fair game. He went for everything on 4 legs! He did calm down though & now he's back to his old miserable-old-git temperament!

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
you said the other dog came over with teeth showing and growling? cant realy expect your dog not to react to that, if another adult came running over to me with fists showing and shouting then id chin them before they chinned me, guess your dog was thinking the same

Yeah that's true but what I'm saying is he's been attacked before and not bitten back this was out of character

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
i know its a funny way to look at it but its better he did react a submisive dog can get serious injured in very short time.
a lot like when carylls dempsey was taken by suprise by the dobby attack over verry quick but damaghe done.
just glad both dogs came out without any major injury

Defffinatel I'm glad he stands up for himself but then he shouldn't of of that makes sense as to the public it's giving out the signals that he is how the media portray staffs to be

Yeah he's fine, some pate on toast and he's sound asleep. and that's my views we're the ones who get the benefits of this beautiful breed.

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
I agree with Big,I would rather have Charlie defend himself than get hurt. If people think your dog is bad because he defended himself when another dog came over spoiling for a fight, let them get on with it. Charlie has never shown any aggression to another dog, but if a dog came up growling and snarling, I would not blame him for reacting like yours did.

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
Two weeks after I got Lils she was attacked outside training by another staffie from the next group waiting to go in. Both were on a lead and as the trainer says to socialise her so I stopped to let her have a sniff and the other owners were OK with that. It all happened in a split second, too quick to see what happened and why but Lils ended up with a bloody ear. Ever since then when she sees another dog she goes into stalking mode and crawls along very low until she gets to them - and she is very cautious and on alert so I now keep her away. She doesn't do the breed any favours as she must look quite menacing as she approaches. I'm working on that one but on the plus side she has now learned how to sit - ho hum one step at a time

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
Hi Char, I am so sorry tooo hear you and your lovely boy have had another bad incident, i did try too post on your other spaniel attack but didn,t come up, my Skye was attacked badly twice by the same dog alittle terrier, it ripped lumps out of her, was awful the guys attidude was crazy he said co his dog was so small he didn,t think it could have hurt my dog, now my girl who use too be very friendly will be a much more dominant dog she gets in first and although she has been great with my new pup i now have too really watch her with other dogs, i guess like humans who may suffer from post tramatic stress syndrome following an attack a dog will be affected too i really hope he is ok spoil him for me lots of goodies and hugs. x

That's it Crystel, I fear he may now start to become dog aggressive. And that isn't something I want on my hands! We'll see, he's been spoilt and I passed on all hugs!

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
You'd be surprised how quickly they'll forget something like that as long as it wasn't something serious with painful injuries.
Just keep an eye on his body language for a while, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Re: staff on staff attack! (Off lead dog)
My old staff was fantastic with any animal, he was even on tv for befriending a deformed duck! But then he got attacked by another staff, he made a mess of the other staff and from that day on he'd be the first to attack any dog that ran up to him apart from my mums spaniel who was his friend...

Yay a whole day without incident, he seems ok, just a little 'talkative' to other dogs.
