Eating grass
Elwood seems to love grass. So much so that our walks are taking longer because he has to stop for a munch every few yards! Is this ok for him to do and how much is too much? He isn`t sick after eating it. I think I know what he is crossed with now.....a cow lol x

Re: Eating grass
Don't worry until he grows udders Tilly does exactly the same and no sickness .TBH I always thought dogs ate grass to make themselves sick and Tilly taught me different. I don't know if anybody can say any different but we don't appear to have any issues at all.

Re: Eating grass
They can't digest grass so discourage it, they either sick it up or you get a grassy bum! (or worse)
Took Moo out for mornings and got through 6 bags, pooing and stopping and tugging it out! Its just wrong lol!!
Thats what happens when the walker has her, she is a hoover, especially with grass!
Its not good for them so discourage where you can Xx

Re: Eating grass
Millie and Bella both love grass too. I try and discourage it, not always easy especially if they are offlead in the park. Millie is the worst for it and always seems to get grassy bum when there are people around to see me trying to keep her still while pulling grass out with Bella jumping on her and running about playing. Going to end up flat on my face one of these days

Re: Eating grass
Rolo loves his grass.... especially heavily laden with dew and he searches for the cobwebs that are laced into the grass first thing in the morning!!! Bouncing from one to the next scooping them up

Re: Eating grass
I'm sure that Caryll's BT Dempsey had a problem with bloat caused by eating grass, I'm sure she'll be along to correct me if I'm wrong. I'd definitely discourage it.

I still don't know what started it, but yes, Dempsey went manic one evening eating whatever grass he could find. Because a dog can't digest grass it just balled up in his stomach & began to give off gas, which in turn led to bloat. A scary time.
Discourage it wherever possible. Some dogs east it only when they feel a little 'off' but it can become a problem.

Re: Eating grass
Eating grass is common, often if the dog has eaten something that does not agree with it's digestion, eg very rich human table scraps. It can sometimes also be a nervous habit, in a stressed dog out on a walk.
There are potential health hazards such as worm eggs, faecal contamination and also lung worm. Best to discourage and distract with offering a small, nice treat.

I'm afraid mine can't resist a chew on a nice piece of grass either, they must chew it up well though as I don't have any bum hangers

Didn't know Dempsey's bloat was caused by grass I'll have to try and get her to cut down , it's just so difficult as it's everywhere you go and she just randomly munches, wouldn't say she feeds on it , but the only rela way to stop her is to keep her on a lead

Re: Eating grass
My pup is/ was, into GRASS Big time, we where in the park and couldn't go further as it kept coming up, regurgitating the stuff and he kept trying to lick it all up again...wth me going through this process wth him watching carefully every time he tried to munch the grass i would warn him persistantly... now I can tell he thinks twice before he chomps on it now and realized that the grass is the problem and made him feel unwell
