Really annoyed!!
My hubby has been converting a van we bought in to camper over the winter so we can go away whenever the weather is good over the weekends etc and bring the dogs with us.....Anyway.....i was searching for loads of different campsites by the coast in a few different areas we like to go 2 and noting down there post codes and numbers so when we want to go we can just go. I had noted down about 30 or so when i stumbled aross a lovely one, i was just noting down the number etc when i noticed they had a section on dogs i clicked it and they said that they do not under any circumstances accepted staffys or staffy crosses. I was really shocked at the wording they used as they seemed so dog friendly having separate fields to exercise the dogs in and offering free dog baths and nail clipping. I was so so angry.....i thought i better check the other sites i had written down. I couldnt believe it......out of the 30 sites i had written down 18 of them would not take staffys and 10 of them it was only staffs they wouldnt take, anything else was fine mastiffs, rotties, etc etc. Well i was honestly so so shocked! I phoned the originall site that wouldnt take staffs and really let rip 2 be honest and i think by the end of the call (although they wouldnt admit it) i think they were re thinking there ways....I know ive said this before but my sister in laws jrt is a real danger to children, she snapps and barks at any child under about 4 and on a few occasions has injured children and broken the skin and i have personally had to pick her up by the scruff to make her let go of another dog. As i said to the camp site owners how can this be acceptable....Im not saying my dogs are perfect but my god they are the only dogs i know who have literally never ever even given a warning to my kids, summer learnt to walk by pulling her self up on ty using his ears, ty used to walk slowly around the house and she used to use him as a walker for gods sake!
Anyway......rant over lol but this really shocked me!!

Re: Really annoyed!!
I have sent for some brochures because I want to rent a cottage in Devon or Cornwall for a weeks holiday and take Harry with me, but I have noticed that some ask for the breed of dog on the booking form. Haven't booked yet, but I am half expecting the same prejudice/ignorance as you have just experienced.

Re: Really annoyed!!
I've noticed that when looking up some supposedly dog friendly campsites. It makes no sense at all. Dog breed shouldn't come into it, they're either dog friendly of they're not. Most of the snarly snappy dogs I've seen have been small fluffy things an the only time I've been bitten it was a lhasa apso.

Re: Really annoyed!!
I dont know if this will help but when I book at a dog friendly spot, I include a phot of Tyson and a letter from his training class teacher as a testament to his good behaviour.

Re: Really annoyed!!
Last year me and the wife went camping at warren farm in brean, nice site although we didn't have marley then, my father in law had his staffy with them and there was no problem at all,as long as they are kept on a lead they are fine with any dog that doesn't cause a problem

Re: Really annoyed!!
Im glad you let rip! That's bloody rediculous! Its like Akitas, a lot of kennels won't take them at all unless they have a Dangerous Dog pen that is free for the amount of time needed.

Re: Really annoyed!!
wow I just cannot believe the bad rap staffys have over there. ... like all things it is irresponsible owners who had contributed to this...
we stayed at a dog friendly caravan park once and when we went to book in a few years later they said they no longer took dogs because 'people' hadn't done the right thing and let their dogs roam free and not pick up their poo etc... these morons muck it up for everyone else!!

Re: Really annoyed!!
That is completely outrageous!!! WTF are these people on???
Like your boys Carly, Charlie has never, ever growled at or warned a child, and some of the things my four year old son has done to him when they've been playing certainly warranted it! There's the added fact that for some reason, not many dogs like Charlie, but again, he has never showed any aggression. He can be boisterous when playing with dogs, but that's it.
Small dogs, IMO, are evil little rats. They snap and yap, they have very low tolerance for children in my experience and they are the ones that these idiots need to be worrying about.
Good on you for giving them grief Carly, they fully deserved it, and I seriously hope they rethink their ridiculous policy about staffies and staffy x's.

I don't think the cottages are top of the range, but they are very dog friendly. She's also an old school friend of mine!

Maybe we need a 'name and shame' sticky thread where we can list these places?

Hi Lizzie , as you can see can see rom Caryll s link I am at BoTurnell now , as long as you don't mind being on a farm and don't want luxury this is a great place and I am warming to it very quickly and yes they are extremely dog friendly (there are 2 other staffies here at the moment) It is a typical real life working farm and everyone is really friendly and keen to fuss Tilly, and great walks through their own woods, keep an eye on the link I will be putting some pics on later when I get a card adaptor for my camera (and free wifi !)

Re: Really annoyed!!
If I should ever be so lucky as to win the lottery I am going to set up a campsite that is especially for Staffy owners and any other dogs they may own. Members of this forum will have top priority over spaces available.

Re: Really annoyed!!
There is a Cottage rental place in Old Orchard Beach Maine that advertises by saying "We are 100% Pet Friendly" and "Dogs Always Welcome - We won't say no!" Then in tiny print at the bottom it says:
As of September 2007, we can no longer accept the following breeds of dogs: Akita, Chow, American Staffordshire Terrier, Presa Canario, Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Wolf Hybrid or a mix of ANY of the breeds listed.
Yeah, that's 100% pet friendly, all right...

Re: Really annoyed!!
just an idea. My nan owns a caravan in porthcawl, it's a Parkdean site, they take booking with dogs. Im asumming staffys welcome because a few owners have them. I take kenny all the time. Theres dog poo bins every where and 3 beaches, they have a lovely sports bar that leads on to an outdoor patio, playground, wet area 4 kids and much more. My nan doesnt let, but loads of people do, you could even book with Parkdean

Funny u should mention parkdean....it seemed that when i was researching sites to tay at the chain run places or bigger "proper" holidays parks didnt seem to have any predudice at all towards any breed of dog at all...we have found a lovely place called freshwater which was only £16 per pitch plus £2.50 per dog which has all the entertainment in the evenings a massive indoor swimming pool and play equipment etc. It seemed to be the smaller places which had a problems so im wondering wether its something to do with insurance...?

Re: Really annoyed!!
This has wound me up I was hoping to go camping at some point in the summer and take Ty along with us looks like its gonna be harder than I fist thought.
A few years ago my friends dad booked a nice cottage for us all to stay in in Wales for a few days for her 21st birthday. They said we could take her dog with us but a couple of days before we went she got a phone call to ask what breed the dog was and as soon as she said English Bull Terrier they said oh no sorry you cant bring the dog no reasons given just a no! These people need educating it winds me up something rotten grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

The idea of a 'Name & Shame' thread is not to make them care but so that people with Staffords who frequent this forum are aware of these places and do not book to go there, only to encounter a problem on site and possibly lose money & receive hassle for owning what we all know is the best breed of dog

Re: Really annoyed!!
So awful and sorry to hear.
We run into pit-bull-related prejudice here, but nothing like what you folks deal with (and I don't think even true pit bulls have it as bad as your Staffies). I just hired a dog walker today. When I told him our new puppy was a Staffy he couldn't say enough wonderful things about the breed. It was nice to hear.
