bit annoyed
hi all, i was just wondering if any body else gets nasty comments when out walking there staffy, today one of my neighbours said to me you do know what a dog like that is capable of dont you, i told them that roo is the most loving dog and adores our son, and about 2 weeks ago i was out walking her with our son and i over heard someone say look at her with a dog like that around her kid, it hurts to say the least roo does not have a nasty bone in her body,so i was just thinking does any body else get this at all

Re: bit annoyed
Yep,ive had it before. It does come with owning a staffy sadly I just laugh at them and tell them that they are sad, deluded, and not worthy of any staffy.

Re: bit annoyed
Yeah I get it all the time. I even got abused by a little old lady once in my vets surgery because I was sitting in the chair next to where she wanted to sit and my dog is 'vicious' and she couldn't possibly sit next to 'it'. The ironic thing was that she had a JRT that spent the whole time snarling and barking at Dizzy while she was sitting under my chair shaking because she hates the vets so much!

Re: bit annoyed
Yes. All the time.
We already had Bandit when I became pregnant with my first. Everybody advised me to get rid of Bandit. Told me I'd never forgive myself if anything happened. But he never harmed a hair on my kids' heads. They became great friends & was so missed when he died that it took a long time to decide to get another dog.
We now have a Bull Terrier. Sometimes I walk my boss's daughter's GSD which gives the gossips so much more to talk about - walking TWO of those nasty dangerous breeds!
Ignore them. They are ignorant. They don't understand the love these breeds have for children.

Lol there are many people who could do with a slap. My mum should do it as a full time job.....she has a wicked slap on her....still got the mangled face to prove it lol
We should all get together and walk them together.....that would be a sight for them to comment on

Make sure you go and check it at night....my work looks amazing at night
Don't want you coming on here giving me a bad name.
It might be closed down now...think I heard it was because the government didn't want to fund it anymore.....the kids were that dishearted about the news of their great school, they trashed the extension in frustration and anger
don't worry about them. Wouldn't listen to anyone who obviosuly knows feck all, unless it me who obviously knows feck all

Re: bit annoyed
my first dog was a jack russel and he was a total headcase was fine with most people unless they had black coats(he used to proper kick off)he was great with dogs his size or a little bit bigger but bigger dogs ie gsd dobermans rotties he would have to be kept on his lead as he would take any of them on
i deff think they can have more issues than a staffy

Re: bit annoyed
think your right wazza, plus there are allot of owners who have them treat them like babies due to their size which makes them even worse

Re: bit annoyed
Yeah they do i mean i grew up from a baby till i was 9 with a jack russell and she was lovely baring in mind we rescued her and she was neglected and used as a breeding machine but she was so placid but alot of jack russels u come across are head cases

Re: bit annoyed
we had jack russels when i lived at home, i always remember one been daft as a brush, and the other was as nasty as any thing he would chase you right up the farm track ,until he managed to take a chunk out of your ankle, sadly he met a bad end he run out in front of a car but i agree some jack russels are worse than any other dog

that is 1000% right its the owners not the dogs at all, but some people fail to see that and just blame the dogs and give them a bad name which is so so sad

Re: bit annoyed
Yep i got it with Nitro and i get it with Harley(Mia is the one people need to be afraid of she's a protective bitch), Nitro even used to let a friend of ours little girl ride to the park on his back(Charli was about 18 months at the time). I don't listen to what others say, I know my dogs, they don't, just because of a few people treating their dogs badly all of us are treated badly.
Don't worry about them is what i say. They are not worth the time, energy or effort or the breath.

Re: bit annoyed
Hi.
I get that regularly too. I have had people cross the street with their dogs to get away from us. Unfortunately its not helped by the fact Buster is VERY giddy and as soon as he sees a person or another dog he wants to get to them for fussing but I understand people can mis read that. I find myself saying 'he's very friendly, he just wants to say hello' and I get 'he doesnt look friendly!' or 'oh yes they all say that' but I know my dog. He has been attacked twice by Jack Russells off leads when he has been on his lead and he didnt know what to do!!!

Re: bit annoyed
When we had the home check for Lottie, the lady warned us of the treatment we'd get from the public. I didn't really believe it and I was used to getting funny looks because JD looks like a big black GSD. Since having him and Lottie, people haven't made comments (perhaps they are too scared!) but they regularly cross the road, turn back on themselves and walk away, ignore me if I make a friendly comment or greeting. There's one woman at the park I visit that will absolutely not goes past me with her dog and will make comments to other people whilst pointing directly at me. You'd think I was walking a couple of bombs! Luckily I've met loads of people who understand the bad rap staffies get and are sympathetic with me. Oh wait, I have remember a couple of people have shrieked in fear and even picked up their dog. It's a self-fufilling prophecy really, that kind of behaviour is what may cause a dog to act out.

Hahaha I've recently been walking my boss's daughter's GSD with my bull terrier, and the looks and comments I get are unbelievable! Last week I was told that I was totally irresponsible for having "two of them dangerous breeds" and I "should be put inprison" for it. Both dogs are really well behaved & weren't doing anything wrong at the time!
