Jumping problem!
I have a 9 month old Staffy and she greets every one by jumping at them and people are not very impressed. Ive tried a few ways to stop her doing this but its not really working, any tips are appreciated, thanks

Re: Jumping problem!
When she jumps up at you, you have to tell her no. I know we love the attention but start with this.
When you have visitors pop her back on a lead and let them enter without the excitment, when she is calm let her off and keep her distracted with something other than the guests.
Its not going to happen over night, mine still jumps if someone shows attention to her, but not at everyone and in the house she usually leaves guests alone.
Takes a bit of time but they get there.

Re: Jumping problem!
It's good to get your visitors to ignore her and turn their back on her when she jumps up, then when she's settled say hello on their terms, both mine jump up but Im finding they soon settle down when ignored. Good luck x

Re: Jumping problem!
Agree with the above. You will have to stop her from doing it with everyone all the time but she will understand with patience and consistancy

As above really try keeping the lead on until she has calmed down a little, we give Rocky a good chew toy to distract him until visitors are in and settled he is usually OK by then.

Re: Jumping problem!
Usually the best method is too simply ignore them if they jump up and only give attention when they are calm. Unfortunately, the difficult part is that everyone needs to ignore the jumping, every time for it to be successful. After a while they learn that jumping doesnt get them any attention, only being calm with all four feet on the ground does. Consistency is the key!
However, just a little warning. Sometimes it will get worse before it gets better - the dog sees it that it used to get attention for jumping so now it tries harder. But if you persevere, they will stop. Dogs do what works for them so if they never get attention for jumping, they'll stop.
