We've had her for nearly 2 months (she will be 4 months 4/04/12) and she is so much smaller then other English staffys her age that we have meet. She weighs around 5.6kgs. Is she too small?

Re: Is my girl too small?
Hi & welcome to the forum.
It's so hard to judge size by your pics - there's nothing to see her up against. But she is beautiful! The weight doesn't sound too bad, though.
Only time will tell, she has such a lot of growing up to do yet. And remember, the staff isn't a huge breed anyway. A lot of the staffs you see in the street nowadays are probably too big. As adults they're only supposed to be:
Height: Desirable height at withers 35.5 - 40.5 cms (14 - 16 ins.), these heights being related to the weights.
Weight: dogs: 12.7 - 17 kgs (28 - 38 lbs); bitches 11- 15.4 kgs (24 - 34 lbs)

Re: Is my girl too small?
Hi and welcome from us and Suki. I wouldn't worry they all grow at different rates just like people. It will seem like she's small and than she will have a growth spurt. She is very cute though

Thanks for the replies. Wow, I didn't know they can grow until 3 years of age. People have been telling me she will stop growing around 12-18 months!!

Height-wise, yes, she'll probably stop growing then. But she'll continue to fill out & muscle up until about 3 years old!
How tall is she to the shoulder?

Re: Is my girl too small?
Hi and welcome
Her build looks very similar to Mia when she was that age, she wasn't a chunky puppy either but she is growing up and filling out beautifully now, her baggy neck stayed with her for quite some time though!
She looks perfect to me and she's too cute!!

Re: Is my girl too small?
A very large amount of staffies nowdays are cross breeds or oversized. She doesn't look small to me at all. Staffies are only small dogs, they are terriers after all! My boy is 14 inches to the shoulder but no one has ever accused him of being small.

Re: Is my girl too small?
I mean small when percieved by others in regards to the surrounding enviroment. If we're going by dog breed standards then yeh they're a medium breed. But they're only a small animal compared to say, a cow or something.

Re: Is my girl too small?
she looks fine to me and very cute, i thought this of Bruce , but i think you just dont notice them growing when you are with them all the time!
I took Bruce to my mums and she could not believe how he had grown, i could not see it myself. It just takes time for them to fill out i guess!she looks about the same size as bruce and he is 15 weeks old

Hi and welcome from me, Millie and Bella. She is gorgeous. I wouldn't worry about her size. Over the last few months Bella has gone between looking leggy and slim and short and stocky

Re: Is my girl too small?
Even litter mates dont grow at the same rate, Marleys brother Loki was alot smaller than him and now at 7months old they are virtually the same size. they dont seem to grow evenly either it will be legs for a bit then something like ears then feet, fill out abit then legs etc etc etc get ready for a dappy looking dog some weeks lol
