"She's so small!!"
Ok so this is what we tend to hear quite often when we take our 9 month old out and its becoming quite annoying. Our little girl is 9 months old and weighing in at about 14 kilos which from what we understand is quite standard. She does however still look like a little pup and so i was just wondering if there was anything here that would tell me what a typical 9 month old should measure and weigh?? I've measured her against the standard and she does seem to fit so i don't know why we are constantly being greeted with such a comment.....its tiring having to explain that she does indeed fit the standard but makes me now question it....

I wonder if the problem is that so many 'staffies' are now being bred away from standard, and that people are getting so used to seeing big dogs that they think that's now standard.

Yes, she sounds quite normal. Staffords tend to finish growing upwards at about 18 months but don't finish 'bulking up' till about 2 - 2.5 years old.

She sounds just right to me. Staffies vary quite a bit in size with bitches seeming quite petite compared to dogs. You can't win either way with peoples' comments, I sometimes get the "He's a pitbull isn't he" from time to time. I just smile and say "No, all staffy"!

She sounds perfectly normal for the standard staffy, that's what we thought Katy would be. But she has grown into a much bigger girl although she's a staffy!

Re: "She's so small!!"
Lexi was a "small" looking staff, but actually perfect for the breed standard as a random staff person once stopped me to say "oh wow how nice it is to see a proper sized staff these days!!" and this would have been 5 or more years ago.
People lately dont really know what size they should be cause there are so many taller ones/crossbreds. If they went to a show they would see, as standards are till kept there.
Same can be said for a lot of breeds, theyre either too large or too small. I see so many huge labrador/spaniels with owners saying its just good strong breeding, when actually a good working labrador/spaniel is smaller.
Trend seems to favor massive dogs lately...a worrying trend.
