Night time noise
Most nights at bedtime, around 11.00- 11.30ish, Elwood won`t settle down. When we go to bed he starts to bark, whine and sometimes howl. I tell my oh to try to ignore him, but he will insist on going down to see if Elwood is ok. Last night my oh was in the lounge with him for ages and Elwood was still making a racket on and off. He has a long walk and a good run before it gets dark and has his toys when he gets home, but he still wont settle.

Re: Night time noise
Your gonna have to ignore the howlng, and so is OH!! Everytime he goes to him it enforces that making a Noise = Attention.
May take a few restless nights, but stick to it! Xx

Re: Night time noise
Agree with Janey. Everytime you give him attention for whinning or howling you are reinforcing that this is the way to get attention. If he sleeps in a crate you could also try moving it into the bedroom so he can be near you.

Did the ignoring thing last night. He cried, barked and did a bit of howling for 20mins or so. He also tried to rip up the carpet outside the bedroom BUT he did quieten down! I had to tie my oh down to stop him going to see him though!

Re: Night time noise
well done!! It will get better, if you don't want him in the bedroom and it continues (I don't think it will if you continue to ignore it) you could put a baby gate over the door, that way he can still see you XX

Re: Night time noise
as hard as it is, you did the right thing!
..as long as your OH keeps going to him, Elwood will kick up a fuss because he will think well everytime I make a commotion someone comes to see me... this is great!!
Could you leave a radio on nearby quietly through the night..that could help him settle too..
