Any energy draining ideas?
I have been flattend by a virus and am unable to walk Ty. I walked him yesterday and it flattened me. today we have just lazed around. I bathed him and now he is gnawing on a huge bone (indoors of course). I desperately need some ideas on how to drain some of his energy as I know he is going to go ape later. I cannot do anything that will push my heart rate up too much.

Really hard being sick with either kids or dogs or both! Can you ride a bike while he lightly jogs next to you? If you don't go fast your heart rate may stay low. Only other idea is a dog park but I don't know how Ty is there or if one is nearby.

I agree with the brain stimulation, it should help tire him out if he can't be physically exercised.

If you have a garden you can throw a ball and play fetch, that always knackers billy

Mind games! Have you tried it's your choice? It usually tires them out quite nicely, at least the first time when they have to understand the concept. If you search youtube you can find lots of ideas for different tricks or how to teach them. Perhaps teach him to put his toys in a toy basket?

Re: Any energy draining ideas?
or do some scent work perhaps? If you have some tasty food - meat, hot dogs, cheese perhaps - put it on a string and drag it along the floor (unless you've got carpet )and then later show him the beginning of the track and he'll probably find his way to the food! Or hide pieces of smelly good food around the house (in places he can access) while he's put away in the bathroom or something - then let the search begin.
Re: Any energy draining ideas?
Here's the "It's yer choice" video - by the time you can have him lying down with one treat on each front paw and one on his nose he should be quite tired.

A plastic bottle or stuffed animal that he can chew works with Suki most days.

i get treats and cut them into smallish peices then scatter them all over the floors and then they go hunt them out and hoover them up. also there are the treat dipensing activity balls lemmy has one and loves it. he roles round the floor and loves it when a treat falls out. he chases it all over.

Thanks everyone for the fabulous ideas. Not 100% yet, will take awhile. I am taking an easy shorter work in the mornings and evenings now but the mind games are just what the doctor ordered.
