Low energy dog Empty Low energy dog

Post by brigond Sat Jul 12 2014, 14:56

We have had her a week from out of the shelter. She's been to the vet . Does anyone have a low energy lounger? She's 5 years old. We like that she's calm but I was expecting high energy. She doesn't seem sick at all .She peps up later in the morning. Maybe it was the weeks at the shelter . Hoping we just have a lazy bones. This is her favorite activity....... YES !... My Flo is low energy most of the time.

We jokingly call her our little coiled spring... Ready to leap into action at any min  Laughing ... To be fair, she is full of energy on walks and when playing at home but will more often than not simply sleep or sunbathe in the summer. It's such a hard life being a Staffy  Big Grin

Thanks for the replies. She's still low energy as you can see. Right now we are inside and my son has a few friends over and she is snoring . I walked her around the block ( about a ten minute walk) and she was pooped. I'm beginning to think that the previous owner never exercised her. The only interest may have been breeding. The first couple of days I had to carry her down stairs, she now has it all figured it out. She appears a little under weight but Her appetite is better since we brought her home. The folks at the rescue had her on a 3 times per day feeding. The vet said she could use 2 or 3 pounds. On a good note, she really doesn't appear to be sick. We are glad she ended up at the shelter because she's all ours n Low energy dog IMAG2004_zpsf3d42854 ow.

Oh bless her! How did the kennel staff find her? When Biscuit was in kennels she would spend most of her time snuggled up in her bed! And she does the same at home lol! Similar to Ian's Flo, she is very calm and chilled in the house, but has lots of energy stored up for walks and play! She can complete 15 mile hikes and really enjoys them! But the exercise that she gets probably tires her out as well, we run her for about 90 minutes a day, mostly off lead. Girlies are generally calmer than boys, but I've met lots of chilled out staffies in kennels Smile

She was brought in by the person who was breeding her. A staff person at the shelter told me that the male dog she was with no longer liked her after he was fixed. Evidence of that is the scar on top of her head. I won't take her off the leash until she is fully trained not to pull while walking. At this point a fifteen mile hike is out of the question. Maybe a fifteen minute walk Smile . She does not play with any toys. Right now she is in her open crate sleeping. I'm going to get her out and about soon.

Yes, we will build her up. She seems to have a little more pep later in the day. She's certainly not a morning dog.
