Sardines?
I got Chase some sardines in brine the other day as a treat and he went crazy for them! Dare i say he may have enjoyed them more than he enjoys chicken!
Just wondering if anyone else gives their staff sardines?
And how often could i give them to him? I don't really know what nutritional value they have? I imagine the oils must by good for his coat?

Re: Sardines?
I wouldn't give him the ones in brine - much too salty! The ones in vegetable oil or spring water are best, but you can also give him the ones in tomato sauce (not the spicy ones).
A couple of times a week is enough, you shouldn't give them too many.

Re: Sardines?
when we got Lottie we were told to give her oily fish like sardines mackerel and stuff in oil as the natural oil in the fish helps the body produce dopamine which is the bodies natural valium if you like it helps to lower the adrenaline level letting your dog rlax a little better. its worked wonders for her. so yes its agreat treat and good for them too

Re: Sardines?
we just get one of the flat small tins per day and split it between the 2 dogs so its like one and half fish each with the oil they come in

Re: Sardines?
Cool Thanks.
Chase absolutely loves them. And for the price, there defiantly worth it for that extra little bit of nutrition.
And if it helps him to relax a little more naturally like you said, there defiantly worth it!

Re: Sardines?
I do fresh ones. They are a bit big so I usually cut them in pieces and give Monte some throughout the week. Too many and they can start to take on the smell, but mine goes nuts for fish. I have been told the ones from the farms can have increased mercury so be careful not to overdo it, but I really don't know that as a fact, just something I heard.

No one wants a fishy dog
The first time i gave them to Chase his tail was in over drive and he cleared his bowl in seconds, then came to give me a nice fishy lick to say thanks. Fishy breath to say the least!!
