We got attacked...
Today was a beautiful day so I took Saxon to some trails in the woods (you are supposed to have the dogs on leash and Saxon was on his leash). I usually wouldn't walk him in the woods without the boyfirend, but the weather was so nice that I felt like it would be fun.
We were walking on the trails and a small pink ball flew our way, Saxon sniffed at it. Suddenly with a flash of brown and white a Pointer jumped at Saxon. She was growling and biting and it all happened so fast. I didn't really even see what happened it was so fast. It was so scary Saxon's tail was between his legs and he was trying to get away and I was trying to get him away. Then her owner, a heavy set man in a football jersey, showed up and said, "She won't bite, she's just defending her ball." He grabbed her ball and threw it and she ran off after it. He apologized and asked if Saxon was neutered and started making all sorts of excuses about how she doesn't like un-neutered male dogs and she is really protective of her ball and then he just walked off. I was still sort of in shock and didn't realize at first that Saxon had been bit.
Saxon was panting and shaking and his tail was between his legs. He didn't even try to fight back during the attack, he was just trying to escape. I took him over to a pond to have some water because he was panting so bad. When I got to the pond I noticed red all over his face. I thought he was bleeding. Then we walked back to the car so I could clean off his face. There actually wasn't very much blood, it mostly looked like blood blister type things.
I took him to the pet store with the dog wash and gave him a bath and cleaned all his wounds with antibacterial cleaner and iodine pads. There were a couple of actual wounds on his face and back (the one on his back is a bit swollen), but the rest of it looks like blood blistery things like I said before.
He got to pick out a toy at the store and he even greeted a dog as usual (which I was very comforted to see, I thought he might be afraid of dogs after this). I'm still a bit shaken, but Saxon seems to have forgotten it ever happened. He already destroyed his new toy and now he's back to chewing on his favorite antler.
Here are a couple of pictures of his wounds:
Before we got attacked, it was a nice walk. I feel so bad that it ended so badly. Here are a couple of pictures from the walk itself:
it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was when I first looked. It really freaked me out and it still looks pretty bad, but I know it isn't as bad as it looks. He does have the one cut on his back that worries me a bit because it is a bit swollen. I think he's going to be ok, I'm just keeping an eye on all of his wounds and be extra vigilant on walks for the time being.

Re: We got attacked...
That's terrible news. I hope you are both okay and I'm sure if must have been very scary for you both. I can't see the pics since I'm at work now but the injuries don't sound too severe and you did the right thing by cleaning them. I'm glad Saxon seemed okay with other dogs after the attack. Big hugs to you both

Re: We got attacked...
Thanks. It was very scary, but I think Saxon will be ok. He's very sensitive, but also resilient. The injuries aren't too bad, it looks like just the one on his back broke the skin.

Oh no! What a beautiful day and then an idiot dog and her owner had to come ruin it! Glad he is doing alright and is behaving normally. I would have been the one that man had to worry about if it were me. What a scare! I hope Saxon doesn't have any ill side affects from the bites.

I think what is more fitting would be "idiot owner and his dog!"

Oops, that is actually what I meant to type but my mind and fingers apparently weren't communicating properly.

Re: We got attacked...
Thats terrible I hate it when people always brush off their dogs bad behaviour instead of acknowledging it and maybe doing something about it!
Hope Saxon heals up quickly and that your not too shook up by it

Poor Saxon, it's so scary when something like that happens. Its so good it hasn't made him wary of other dogs. It's happened to Millie a few times and she is nervous around some other dogs now.
I hope Saxons wounds heal quickly and you feel better soon.

Bloody hell, glad you're both ok. What a muppet!
I'd keep an eye on the swellings - if they haven't gone down within 24 hours it means they're infected (quite common with puncture wounds) and he may need some anti-bs.

Poor Saxon. Idiot owner for not checking to see if Saxon was ok. At least attempt an apology especially when your mutt attacked first.

Hope Saxon is soon feeling better. It just shakes you up so much, I kno0w. Did you inform the Police show them the pictures? Wonder what the owner would have done had it been a child the dog had attacked, maybe the same response. Big hugs to you and Saxon ><

If you have to get any veterinary treatment, I'd start carrying the bill around with you so that if you come up against this idiot again you can ask him to reimburse you!

Poor Saxon At least he seems to be just taking it in his stride and not lingering on it though.

Re: We got attacked...
He slept with us last night. He usually sleeps in his kennel, but he was trying to jump up in the bed (which he never does) so we let him sleep with us. He got out of bed and went back to his kennel in the middle of the night. Good to hear that our $500 mattress is less comfortable to Saxon than his $20 dog bed! I guess we move around too much or something when we sleep.
I reported the incident this morning. The guy I spoke to said that he had answered one call about that dog (or a similar looking dog) this week and thanked me for calling it in. I'm not ever going back to those trails, I don't want to run into that dog again.

Oh poor Saxon and how scary for you. ><
Hope his wounds are healing ok and he doesn't have any lingering issues.
How can that stupid bloke say "she wont bite". I'm sure he saw the blood on Saxon's face. As horrible as it was for Saxon, I'm glad he didn't defend himself and fight back.

Well done you for reporting it. So many times things happen like this and don't get reported. Hope you are both doing OK.

Re: We got attacked...
So sorry you had such a frightening experience. I think its every dog owners biggest fear to have their dog attacked by another, and when it happens it stays with you for quite a while.
Fingers crossed the lovely Saxon will heal quickly with no lasting problems.

I think he's feeling pretty good today. His face certainly looks much better:
And so does his back:
He's being really cuddly, too. He's such a sweetie pie:

Poor boy, glad he's healing ok.
Did the guy you reported it to say they'd do anything about it?

Re: We got attacked...
He said he couldn't really do anything since I didn't know they dog's/owner's names. It's been put on file, though, so if another incident happens and someone wants to file charges they can prove that there was a bite history with this dog. If that does happen they may call me in to ID the dog/tell my story. At the moment, though, they really can't do much.Caryll wrote:Poor boy, glad he's healing ok.

Re: We got attacked...
All of his wounds are healing well, but now that it's scabbed over you can see how big the one on his back was. He's such a great and happy dog and it makes me so sad that he had to go through this.
Look at this sweet pup! How can any one want to hurt him?
