Puupy's Chest Empty Puupy's Chest

Post by Zambi Sun Oct 23 2011, 19:38

Hello All - new member here and happy owner of our first wee staffie, she's just turned about 4 months old and is a lovely dog altogether, never mind the wee nibbling on my ears!

I have a question and hopefully I'm in the right area - she's been checked and had all her needles, gets proper food and walks in the country almost everyday - so all the basics are covered there.
I noticed recently that on her chest - looking directly at her face, then down, from what seems to be her lower chest area, seems to have a ridge of some sort - almost as if her chest has swollen, she is in no pain, eats, drinks and all fine. It's just unsightly looking and concerned us all here....
My assumption is it perhaps her chest growing and a natural progression of her getting larger - I will be in touch with the vet tomorrow as she is insured and all - but just read a knee-trembler there about some abnormalities that can occur.

if anyone can shed a light on this I'd appreciate it - I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow if that helps - apologies if I'm in the wrong area, new to this and won't happen again!

Many Thanks in advance,

Steve

Puupy's Chest Empty Re: Puupy's Chest

Post by Guest Sun Oct 23 2011, 19:43

Hi and welcome Steve Big Grin

Without seeing a photo, it's difficult to picture what you describe. Has she always had what you describe as the ridge? Staffies are quite deep chested, it's prob normal, but like I said, hard to say without a pic. If she has been checked by a vet and they haven't mentioned it, I'm sure it's all normal.

Don't worry too much about posting in the wrong section, if you're way off the mark, one of us mods will move it to where it should be.

Enjoy your time here, and any questions, just ask, we're here to help Smile

Hello Shontelle,

Sure - I'll try and get a pic up - side profile is best as it shows clearly where the 'drop' seems to be - it's just the soft tissue round her mid-riff and where the chest bones meet - this 'bony' area seems to protrude about an inch or so - we've had her since she was 8 weeks and not noticed. As mentioned - healthwise she's 110% - but as dog lovers - we just want to make sure.
Either that or she's a 33dd in training!

Many Thanks for the hearty welcome,

Steve

There is nothing to worry about there, perfectly normal, not to sure what you think isn't tbh.

Aww she is absolutely adorable!!

Going by the photo's, the first one especially, I'd say she's completely normal, deep chested like all staffies are.

I really don't think there is anything for you to worry about.

Post by Zambi Sun Oct 23 2011, 20:16

That's great to hear - my concern was where you can see my wife holding her - they way her ribcage sits flat - we had huskies and other dogs previous and i just found it unusual, but now calmed with your good advice.
To be honest I don't like staffies, never did, my mother and father also.
And within one week of madam arriving here - as you can expect - we're all won over.
The best wedding anniversary present I got my wife yet.
I'm still waiting on my team of 25 huskies though....

Thank You very much with that advice and I'll be sure to be on and off here in time with more pics and some videos too.
I seen from Steve's post a while back about the video side of things - i work with film and animation and might be able to help Smile

Cheers to all

Thank You all again, by the thumps of this one round the house all is well!
As many of you have hinted and said - she seems to be stretching and just filling out more and more.
Overall one of the nicest natured animals we've had yet, incredibly smart and loyal to the 'whole' family, not just the one.

Happy Days ahead to all!

Cheers!

Thanks again - it's being new to the breed and now that I look at more of the dogs you guys have - equally as cute - I can see it all falling into place.
This is my last pic here for this evening, now before you look, Zambi chewed on my bb phone lead, usb lead and handle of my camera bag. I wasn't cross, how could you be with a face like that on her batting eyelashes

Post by Guest Sun Oct 23 2011, 23:05

She is absolutely perfect so don't worry, my Tilly was no different at her age and even now (almost 16 months) if she sits in that lazy staffy way (anything but straight) she has bones sticking out from all over, I thought she had a problem when she was 3 months and decided to start limping (still no reason found other than sympathy) and we decided she had boney lumps sticking out where they shouldnt so when the vet passed her as ok for the limping, we start asking about the lumps, and he just looks at us if we are gone out, it is really just puupy growth.
She is really beautiful lets have loads more pics Smile)

Cheers about the lead Ty, luckily it wasn't a mains lead Surprised - all things eatable and sneakable have been removed prior to that - it's like there's another child in the child house again!
She seems as bold as ever but has such a loveable nature - she even sings to us when we talk to her and talk about a crying match when she's going out for walks! She has a nice big 2 acre site we just got to play in and couldn't be happier.
There's even a sneaky chance another one might be got to keep her company and to give the poor cat a break - any suggestions on whether to get one now as we feel they may be better growing up together and to avoid any spats - and there's me saying I wasn't fond of staffies.
I just love the way she runs about in the fields with the ears back veering sideways and all you see are a clump of bushes moving - then bang! Old stumpy nose appears out smirking!

Great place here for all the friendly help - if only more people would be more understanding that dogs reflect their owners - and these are one of the best dogs we've had yet - easy to train and very (almost too) intelligent!

Cheers and love all the other 'cousins' we're seeing.
