Crying all night
Hi all,
At bedtime, we've been letting Chloe out (for toilets), then saying sleep time, goodnight before leaving her in the utility room - with no fuss -. And from the moment the door is closed she cries really really loud and it seems to be most of the night. Is this normal and should we definitely be leaving her rather than coming to her - I feel sooooo bad!!

Re: Crying all night
if you leave her to cry she will get used to being there. its the seperation issue and the more pathetic she can make the cry the better chance of you going to her. so long as she is warm and comfortable and safe you have nothing to worry about she is just a little lonely thats all. is you can stand to ignore her then do so

As all the above! She will get used to it, it just takes a few days. Some will stop after 1 night, some after 3 or 4. They all stop eventually!
Try leaving a kong down that you've stuffed with food (peanut butter's a good one) and then frozen. It'll keep her occupied & tire her out!

Ignoring is the correct choice. Hard to do but if you comfort than she will learn to whine for attention

Summer was the same, gave in for 2 nights, then just couldnt physically get out of bed, after about 2 nights she gave it up as a bad joke and dont hear a peep now, only when my alarm goes off and i try and get an extra 10 mins, she definately does not like my snooze button lol

Re: Crying all night
Try leaving a radio switched on in the background. We did this with Rocky for the first few weeks.
Make sure you are in the room with the radio on and your dog for a while so he associates you and the radio. Good luck. Hi and welcome from me and Rocky

Thanks for the reassurance guys, it's been awful listening to her. I'm not sure if she did or didn't cry last night as I had to put ear plugs in Mr S didn't hear her either so fingers crossed we've turned a little corner

Re: Crying all night
I seem to be saying this all the time but Paddy is the same age so we're probably at the same 'stage'
It does lessen. Paddy hasn't stopped yet but it's nothing compared to how he was which was a heartbreaking howl

Hi
You could try a ticking clock. I was told this mimicks mums heart beat. We used this from the first night we had Lola, put it on top of her crate and also left the radio on really low. She has never cried once but to be fair she is a bit a tough nut! A friend of mine was having the same problem and the ticking clock worked a treat. Good luck.

Hehehe it'll be interesting to see how our 'little 'uns' handle each stage won't it
I think the crying has really toned down alot. She obviously cries every so often but i've not heard her at all.

Re: Crying all night
I've noticed when Paddy hears a definite closing of a door he's much quieter. If he thinks anyones about to go to him he's off again. So, tough as it is, it's door closed and out/to bed

Re: Crying all night
Hi,
I always leave TV on almost on silent and a wee lamp switched on.
When Stella was really small I always gave her something I was wearing during the day, a T-shirt or a scarf, and she was fine, crying just a wee bit for couple of minutes during the first nights.
I know that ignoring the crying is the only way but on the other hand I'd make sure that the puppy is not only safe and warm but not too much lonely as well.
The TV, lamp and clothes worked perfectly with Stella - she sleeps on her bed in the living room,
Good Luck ><
Xxx
