Time, and LOTS of patience! Where do they sleep, and how old are they?

they sleep on the stairs but we have two flights of stairs so lots of room for them to stretch there legs. We have recently took them out of there dog cages, they are both male.

Have you tried taking them outside after they have had some water or something to eat? Or perhaps take them outside before bed time?

Hello
You need to be taking them out for a walk before bed time ,take away water until the morning.
And if they have wee tell them off and let them know your not happy you dont even need to raise your voice they will understand.
A wee because they need the toilet is different to scent marking and maybe due to you having 2 male dogs this could be it when you have a dog and a bitch you will notice when the girl wees the dog will over to let other dogs know that shes taken.
Dogs also do this you may not have noticed they may get on great but one will be more dominant than the other and you need to be careful when you leave them together play can get out of hand easily

Re: how to stop weeing in house
We have only had our dog for 5 weeks, and for the first couple of weeks we had issues with her not being able to hold onto her poo. We have now learned that she has to go out an hour after she has eaten her tea. She gets and hour to an hour and a half walk at night at about half 6-7pm. She then goes in the garden at around 10pm for a quick wee before we go to bed. That is it for the night but she does then wake us at half 6 in the morning to go out for a poo.
It is just a case of patience and making sure they both have enough opportunity to go out to the toilet before you go to bed. Tinkerbell will wee 3 or 4 times on her evening walk, but will still go for a wee once or twice before we go to bed. I agree with Gem though that it could be scent marking. I think possibly if they were put in one place when your in bed then they will learn not to wee in that area. Dogs won't toilet where they sleep. Our dog sleeps in the kitchen and we have found we have to shut the bathroom door or she will go in there and poo regardless of if she needs to go, think that may be an area she thinks it is ok to go!

Re: how to stop weeing in house
we have an open plan living room and kitchen so its not an option to leave them in the kitchen. We haven't really got just one small space to put them in, when the were in the cage one of the used to poo in the cage as well. We do walk them often and for long periods of time and then they go out before we go to bed around 9:30 -10.

Re: how to stop weeing in house
How long are they alone for at night? When do you feed them. If they poop at night I would definitely change the time(s) they are fed - perhaps feed them as the last thing you do at night? Then the food shouldn't be digested and ready to come out the other end until the day after at least. Take their water away an hour or two before their last walk and give it back in the morning and see if it helps. Have they been doing this all their life?
Re: how to stop weeing in house
I had a dog that did this. In the end, putting his bed in my room helped. It turned it that he had separation anxiety and wanted to be near me all the time. He never once messed in my room.

Is there any chance you can put a dog flap in your back door.. I have always had a dog flap as i didn't want my dog locked in or out when we weren't in the house, which means it was really quick house training Inca ( an Kruga when he was alive) as it was as simple as getting her to go through the flap an releaving herself while out there... Also she is brilliant when we go out as she can come & go as she please's... She can either go an spend some time in the garden an chill out or nod off in her bed inside the house...
Wouldn't be without a dog flap.. maybe you could consider one

Re: how to stop weeing in house
they don't tend to pooh just more weeing than anything, we leave them on the stairs from around 10:30 till about 6:30 in the morning. i feed them around 5ish at night then they have there last walk about 9ish, they have water down till we go to bed so that might be an idea to lift there water before but won,t they need water after there walk. we have glass doors at the back so a dog flap isn't really an option in this house but would of been a good idea ha ha.

Re: how to stop weeing in house
we had the same problem with Mambo (I say 'had' but I should actually say 'have' because I don't think it's sorted yet) but he's a rescue and he still learns...
I'd try and walk them as late as possible, just before you go to sleep.
Mambo gets his first walk in the morning between 7:30-8:30 and last one between 11pm and midnight. I know this is late for most of the people but it fits our pattern and it seems to be working.

Totally agree with the above I had a cat flap when we first got Gilly which she learned to use by jumping at the back door and then falling through it. When she got bigger I changed it for a small dog flap I too wouldn't be without a dog flap, they can come and go as they please, she sleeps in our room at night but gets up like an old man for a wee about 4.30 down she goes out the dog flap then back into bed.
