Bruno - lab/staff
Hello,
just joining, we rescued Bruno in May and have no experience of Staffys but had researched them and have friends who have recommended them. We have found him to be a loving friendly lad. He is just a year and needs firm boundaries and calming so will welcome any advice from you guys.

Hi and welcome from me and Rocky.
We rescued our beloved little boy Rocky just before Christmas last year, and found that socialising with other dogs and people alike is very important.
Good luck and enjoy

Re: Bruno - lab/staff
not sure if this is how I reply to you all but it was lovely to sign on and see all your welcomes, will try and get photos up. I have been so shocked at the negative comments I have got on waking Bruno even tho he is on a lead and walking well. I have people cross the road. I am a middle aged (well 49) woman hardly a tough nut.carynwinter wrote:Hello,

Hello! Welcome to the forum.
You'll get used to it! There are some very ignorant people out there & it's nice sometimes to be able to put them straight about staffs.

Thanks for your welcomes
Thanks and hi,
I have photos on facebook but not sure how to get them on here, will ask a teenager ! Yes I have had some people that have been won over by Bruno once they know him. I do find some men want to wrestle him and control him so I just have to be firm and walk him away as he gets very overexcited. How do you stop him barrelling into people, when he's running he doesnt seem to be able to judge stopping distance very well. He was running near the lake the other day and fell straight into it, luckily it was shallow.
The lovley thing is that though he tends to jump which we do stop, when I had my 3 yr old neice round I was very concerned he would knock her over and he didnt jump once and was so gentle with her my to my sister's amazement, we were so proud of him.
Main problems are that he loves to play but puts his paws on other dogs backs and we are in training to try and distract him and
constantly after food so have to be on the ball all the time.
Anyway thanks in advance.

Re: Bruno - lab/staff
Hi and welcome, Im new too ! Lol, some people cross the road when Im with my male Dane!!!! A client today at the practice said to me when I was leaving with Tia my staffy "God she is all jaws", I replied " no actually she is all heart!" , worked well !!!!
Luca my male Dane was very similar to your boy growing up, definitely NO wrestling, NO over excitement, I had to be strict but very calm and gentle, and repetition and consistency were the keys...as well as rewarding him when he was good... It worked and he became a Therapy dog !!!!
