2 weeks til we get our staffy puppy!
Hello all,
My name is Alex and I am soon to be a staffy puppy owner along with my husband Ben.
We are very excited and a little bit nervous but are doing all we can to prepare in the next two weeks before we get her.
I've always wanted a dog and I've always loved staffys. We are getting a girl, she is currently 6 weeks old tomorrow, and she is affectionately called Dora (the explorer!) by her breeders family. We love the name so intend to use it too.
I've already read a lot of helpful tips on this website, so I'm hoping it will be a really useful resource if/when we get stuck! And also I've loved seeing everyone's staffy pics. I shall put one up when we get her.

Re: 2 weeks til we get our staffy puppy!
Thank you for such a warm welcome!
Yeah we thought the name Dora was fab too. We had been discussing names before we visited the litter and Dora was the only pup that they had named out of the 11! (is 11 a lot of pups for a staffy? - I have sooo many questions!) Dora is much better than any of the names we had come up with.
To be honest I think the breeders were a little disappointed that we chose her because I think they were pondering keeping her for themselves!
I'm just glad that there were only two girls to choose from, two had been chosen already and the rest were boys. If I had had to choose from all 11 pups it would have been soo hard! They were all so adorable!
I do have a pic of Dora from when we visited, I'll put it up if I can work out how to do it.

Right I've signed up to photobucket, so here goes:
I'm worried she is a little small. She is 5and a half weeks in this pic. But then I seem to be finding a million and one things to worry about!
What are you expert opinions?

I'm not an expert but she is so so cute I wouldn't worry at all about size at this age, there all so different. What an absolute darling. 2 weeks and counting

She's very cute! You must be so excited. We've had our little guy for almost 2 months and it has been the best experience. You'll love having Dora around!

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. She is very cute. They all grow at different speeds and most people think their dog is undersized at one point.

Hi there and Welcome from Me and RoXy
Lovin' the name DORA. I often think I should've called my girl Dora too.........like you say "Dora the explorer" but then again could be "Dopey Dora"
Your little girl looks lovely, and in my opinion does'nt look small for her age, she looks great. Just remember to take loads of pics coz they grow sooooooooo fast. ( and feel free to share them with us, coz we all love pics )
Welcome to the wonderful world of Staffys

Dora is divine!! What a cutie..
I wouldn't be too worried about her size, I remember Jethro was a tiny little baby..yet Winston was a big lump of lard!!

Re: 2 weeks til we get our staffy puppy!
Oh how cute! I love Daija and Roxy!
Thanks again for such a warm welcome. Dora, Ben and I will definitely be sticking around
Gem - I'm not surprised to hear that Dora's litter is unusually large, I suspected as much! All the pups looked very perky though, so you are right mum must be doing a good job
We spent most of yesterday puppy proofing our sitting room. Hopefully our crate will be arriving today so I can test it in the space we cleared for it.
Our next job is to fill in a few holes in the garden fence!
I was a little alarmed after researching poisonous plants to find that we had a few in our garden. Nothing on the deadly list thankfully, but a few from the 'will make your dog sick' list. What is the best approach to take? Should I remove the plants? I'll obviously now be teaching her not to eat any plants if she goes near any, as I know our parents gardens will definitely have some nasty ones.

Hey and welcome!
Dora is just adorable, you almost want to munch her lol
I'm a little jealous because my pup is ony 2 weeks old so i have a very long wait before we can bring her home. I look forward to some more pics of Dora though, and some tips for training if you ever stumble across something that works.
Good luck

Re: 2 weeks til we get our staffy puppy!
Bless, I saw a pic of Sapphire in your intro message, Maxien. She is soo tiny! What a poppet!
Ace looks like a very cheeky chappy
I'm currently reading 'The Perfect Puppy' by Gwen Bailey, I'm about half way through and it seems very informative and useful so far. I'll let you know how I get on with it when Dora arrives.
I hope the training will be as easy as the book makes it sound :
