Long drive collecting my puppy on friday.
When I collect Spartan on Friday I will be travelling from Blackpool to Whitehaven in the Lakes. It works out at around 120 miles over a 2hr 10min journey.
Would just like to ask you good people for any transport tips to make it the least stressful for him.
Thanks.

Re: Long drive collecting my puppy on friday.
ask the breeder for a blanket/toy with mother and litters smell on which most will be anyway.
i personally wouldnt use a pet carrier i find it best if you put them on someones knee as you start the bonding straight way (dont fuss over them just gental stroking )chanses are they will sleep all the way home.
and plan on pickking him up with the breeder a couple of hours after last feed as will help with minimising travel sickness.
and when you get him home make sure your cambra fully charged as we need to see tons of photos lol

Re: Long drive collecting my puppy on friday.
When we picked up Violet I sat in the back seat with her on my lap, wrapped up in the blanket I'd left with the litter. I also brought a big cardboard box, loads of extra blankets, and a couple of towels, but she was really good and just sat dozing on my knee the whole way home (apart from when we drove by a chip shop/McDonalds and she woke up sniffing - start as you mean to go on!).

I actually live in Whitehaven and got our pup from Blackpool, so had the same journey time. When we went for Milo, he just sat on Louise's knee on the way back home. He was fine, just cuddled up to her and fell asleep.
Like others have said, I wouldnt recommend using a carrier as it is already going to be a bit stressful on him taking him away from the litter and his mother. At least if he is on your knee, then you can give him all the reassuarance that he needs.
Good luck with it all.

Re: Long drive collecting my puppy on friday.
Bring something with a scent from the liter, something to chew on, some treats for bribes because it is never to early to start training, make sure he has gone to the bathroom before the trip and make sure to take a break, some of whatever you are going to feed him and someone for him to bond with on the ride home.

Re: Long drive collecting my puppy on friday.
We had an 8 hour drive (plus stops) - this was our set-up:
A plastic box with a blanket and a cozy sleeping bag to snuggle in + a sweater in case he got chilly when he had to go out to potty (it was raining most of the time) and a few toys.
How cute was that puppy?
He also spent a little time in Bajas' crate - the last couple of hours perhaps.
Oh - and he did of course get a blanket with familiar smells from his breeder - it was stuck in there, too. And we had extra blanket and paper towels just in case.

Re: Long drive collecting my puppy on friday.
LOL he was exactly the size of the kitties - that's Hyssing's sweater. I don't really think one is necessary, though, I just happened to have it and he appreciated it when it was raining I think. Wouldn't have gotten one if I didn't have it, though.dkay72 wrote:that jumper lol cute hahaahah

Re: Long drive collecting my puppy on friday.
We drove all the way to malton from wakefield before we got milly to have a look at some staffy pups and when we arrived at the house it turned out the dad was a staffy and the mum was a long haired mongrel.we was so dissapointed, luckily we found milly a few weeks after advertised on gum tree.and we didnt have such a long journey this time. And when my oh and the kids when to collect her she was as good as gold on way home.when they walked in the house with her wrapped up in a snuggly blanket i was in a flood of tears im a real softy

Gallery pics are up people, they were hard work! Little bugger was too hyper to sit still for them most of the time!
