Collecting puppy..what to take? Empty Collecting puppy..what to take?

Post by funkyrimpler Wed Aug 12 2015, 23:30

Okay, the title gives it away, but i'm going to collecting my little mate from wales on Monday..it's about a four hour run each way...
What do you suggest that i take with me to make his journey more pleasant?
First of all, i've got a fairy large cardboard box that i'm going to cut down...i'm thinking about bringing a blanket (the breeder has put another small blanket in with mum so it has the litter smell on), i'm also going to bring a couple of bowls and a large bottle of water, some baby wipes....what else will i need? and also because he's only had his first round of jabs he won't be able to stretch his legs at the motorway services will he, so what is the score as regards toileting??
Any help is greatly appreciated...
Oh, and how do i enter a pic of him for the cute puppy competition?

Ok.. we want some pics as soon as you have him home Big Grin

Sounds like you have things pretty much covered with the scent blanket. As for the wee breaks, stop away from the services. Might take you an extra 5 mins out of your way but going just off the motorway should work well as most will use the services. Just find somewhere grassy that's not obviously dog friendly.

To be honest though, I don't think you'll need to worry about the pup needing a wee etc, he'll just do it as he will be too young to understand, so perhaps a couple of spare blankets wouldn't go amiss Wink

Water is a must too, on a long journey in a car he may well want to drink.

I cant wait to see pics!!! Good luck with the trip, are you going alone? I took a blanket in case he threw up, bottled water & a bowl, a lead and a soft cuddly toy. We had a 3 hour trip home. He was fine, lay on my lap and played with his toy mostly. I let him go toilet halfway but held him til he was ready then put him down quickly and didnt let him roam around. Whats his name?? Smile

Collecting puppy..what to take? Spike%202_zpsvz0yndfq

Cute Level: Adorable

His name is Spike/Spud/Spudley....Over the course of his life with me, i think he'll end up with 50 names, my last pig-dogs did!

I'll take a cardboard box and have him on the passenger seat next to me with a few different chew toys to deploy. I'll also bring a few blankets, puppy pads, bottle of water, a bowl etc...The breeder will be giving me some of his food, so i might give him a snack as we travel back...I'm driving there in my comfy car as my Jeep is a bit bouncy, nothing bu the best for my little mate!!
Once he's settled in at home after an hour or so, had a good sniff and an explore, the training and fun will begin!

I'm buzzing...every night is like Christmas Eve at the moment!

I dare say the novelty will soon wear off when i've trodden in one of his little presents first thing in the morning...

At the moment i've been sorting out my jungle of a garden, reinforcing the lower part of fence (as next doors yappy Pugs can stick their heads through the planks)....I've also been going around the areas he'll be restricted to and 'puppy proofing' things....i never realised how many electrical cables and so forth were laying around....When he's a nipper i'll be keeping him a lead so i can stop him rooting around too much!!

thanks for your kind comments everyone Big Grin i'm probably biased, but to me, he IS totally adorable looking...that daft face!!
and you're right Emma, whenever i think of the little git i get a feeling of joy..I'm off work for a couple of weeks, but i think i'll miss him when i'm out of the house!
I've even taken the liberty of removing the rear seats from my Jeep so when he's a bit older, he's got his own room in the back! I'm having visions of me and my little mate scooting off road somewhere and having a little camping adventure!!
