Looking for a Puppy at long last..
So, i've been thinking about getting a dog for about 2 years now, a long time i know, but i need to be absolutely 100% certain that i can take care of a dog for the rest of it's life..Anyway i think it's time to pull the trigger and get myself a bundle of torment, i mean fun!
We've had Staffs in my extended family since the 80's (before they became a 'trophy' breed), although no one has any dogs anymore ;-( i'm well acquainted with the breed and all of their challenges..
Basically i'm looking for a male, preferably a red but it is essential that they are from a top breeder with a very good pedigree. I've haunted Champdogs for a while, but a lot of the dogs on there seem to be from Holland and Belgium and i don't want to subject a young puppy to that type of travelling.
If anyone can recommend a good breeder or knows of any planned matings/litters then could you please let me know?
Many thanks people!
Simon

Hey! I don't have a clue unfortunately - I work in rescue! But you could have a lurk around the breeders section, you may be able to find some info there

Re: Looking for a Puppy at long last..
Just curious as to why you would like a full pedigree from a breeder when there are so many in rescues that need a loving home?
Just asking

Re: Looking for a Puppy at long last..
i have had 4 staffies in my since i was 13 (now 48) the first three were all full pedigree dogs from top local breeders in the Black Country. they all cost a fortune and all were fantastic dogs in all respects that brought me and my family a lot of pleasure and happiness.
but the best dog i have ever had is the one i've had for the last 3 years. tessa the 6 year old rspca rescue 4 1/2 stone black brindle and white nutter.
pedigree puppies are all well and good for those who want and can afford them but there is somthing special about a rescue dog.
just think about it.

Re: Looking for a Puppy at long last..
my main reasons are really two fold..the first being that i want to enjoy raising a puppy, the second being health concerns and any inherited or genetic disorders. i have absolutely nothing against rescue dogs whatsoever, and fully understand the noble motivation behind adopting one.

Re: Looking for a Puppy at long last..
I too only wanted a pure bred staff because I'm terrified of bsl. I thought if i had kc papers then i would be safe. I did a load of research and found a kc registered breeder who had a recent home inspection. Brilliant, that means the pups are going to be a perfect breed, or so I thought. However when i did a lot of research on the sire and dam i found they were half brother and sister. I couldn't believe it, i didn't think that would be allowed. lt just didn't sit well with me maybe they might have health issues later in life but that's just my opinion. Luckily my staffy x boxer baby was waiting to be rehomed and when I saw her i just knew. It could be worth looking at rescues as they do have pups there. Good luck with your search, your furbaby is out there .

Re: Looking for a Puppy at long last..
I got Stanley from a breeder I wanted to know his parents had been checked for various diseases. (L2). Holly was also from a breeder, before them was Toby from Battersea Dogs home. Toby was a JRT/STB x. None were any more important to me than the other.
Re: Looking for a Puppy at long last..
Having got a rescue now and having a pure many years ago I have to say I haven't noticed any difference, except my current Staffy is Deaf due to operations, they are very similar in temperament.
I can understand getting one from a breeder for the reasons that you list and that you can mould them in your own ways with no previous history but would always consider a rescue puppy in the future.
I don't know of any breeders but wish you luck in the search for your new fur friend
