Post by Guest Sat Aug 27 2011, 12:49

have decided after over 20 years of the "habit" i am going to try and give up. have just downloaded the Alan Carr (not chatty man alan carr) giving up book that many of my ex-smoker friends have used to give up.

anyone else tried this book and succeeded?

Good luck to you. My former boss just gave it up a few months ago. He was very cranky for about a month but no issues now. Never heard of the book though.

Post by Guest Sat Aug 27 2011, 13:12

i am gonna try after i have finished my duty free

i have tried everthing i have been to see allan when he was alive it cost a fortune and that did not work, i have bought his book and the other book he has, that did not work, i have been hypnotised twice that did not work, i have had electrodes put on my booy "to get toxins out, therefore wont crave fags" that diod not work, i have had patches etc they did not work

in the end you have to want to give up for any of this to work. i have been smoking for 38 years now i am quite sick of it

good luck i am sure you will suceed if you want to, maybe we could start a stopping smoking thread so i could join later and we could help each other

you are supposed to carry on smoking whilst reading it and its only as you read the last bit you have your last ever cig - apparently -and it is also menat to stop any cravings/crankiness/ever eating etc.

janey - ive never wanted to give up until now and decided i was going to give up just before i go on my hols so that i will be kept busy and hopefully not think about it - will also have to get through about first 20 hours of flights/airports without one too, also appears that its very frowned uponin Hong Kong and i would get glared at for smoking in the street!!!

patches or something like that, i need my nicotine whilst i try to educate by brain not to want one.

one time when i tried to give up, i went ot boil the kettle for a brew, normally i would have a fag while it was boiling, but i could not, it was a nightmare i was pacing the floor wishing the kettle would boil.

i need to get out of the habit of having a fag, any ideas

im going to give this book a try as so many friends have been successful with it, howeve am putting off reading it too quickly as that ends with the final fag!!!

i dont know whats best lynne, i was going to try cold turkey then decided that may be better aided wwith the book.

the big step for me is deciding i want to stop as until now i have never wanted to, makes me laugh cos ive already read all my excuses i made in this book!

that is the key to sucess really wanting to stop, my OH has had 1/3 of one lung removed and 1/2 of his other through smoking, he had to give up or die and he did just like that, without any help whatsoever, unfortunatley it did not put me off, i felt i needed one to cope

just typing this makes me realise what a mug i am, lets keep this going and we can post all the times when we think we need a fag and we can help each other, i have a least 1 weeks of fags left though, so let me know when you are ready

good luck, my parents both quit cold turkey when i was about 6 years old after my brother and i harrassed them relentlessly about how bad it was for them (obviously all the adds and info about it had started coming out then)

my parents were pretty annoyed though when after about 3 weeks of them not smoking my brother and I hadn't even noticed hahaha!

well done on deciding to quit! I can't wait for the day when every one is strong enough to stop and the tabacco companies go under haha!

Hi,
Sorry for bumping on somebody else's conversation, I was just wondering how it worked out?
I wanted to start a "non-smoking" topic myself but then I doscovered this one... Tongues

I gave up in December, I'm an expert on giving up but this time I want it to last... Big Grin

But what to do with the cravings?
I used nicotine patches and chewing gums. Now nicotine tablets, not that much any more, just 1-3 a day after a meal, but I miss the feeling of relaxation when you sit and watch the smoke....
And I started putting on weight, I always do when I give up and when it lasts more than couple of months Crying or Very sad

So I'm glad I gave up, of course, because of health and skin aging, hehe, but sometimes it is still so hard... Rolling Eyes
Just a wee rant, I know there is no other way than just keep on going Wink
I actually didn't "give up", I just "don't smoke today", and then I won't smoke tomorrow etc. silly
God or somebody help me please Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hi,
yes I have heard of Champix and electronic fags but I have never tried them. I believe that there won't be "next time" to try these - I really don't want to stat again praying day dreaming I have read something years ago about the suicidal tendencies but I didn't know it's true.
I had been off fags for months, once I remember even almost two years, but all it took was one night out, couple of drinks, somebody smoking.... Rolling Eyes
So I actually gave up not only fags but cider as well but I didn't drink much anyway Big Grin
But it's great, the money I save and health and stuff.... It's good to know that I'm not the only one who struggles, though.... We'll make it star
Thanks xx

Hi,
oh, that's a shame!
But sometimes I wonder whether the stress and stuff when I don't smoke is not worse than smoking itself? Because life is to be enjoyed? >Smile
But it is fine most of the time I don't even think about it any more.
I'd love to be the "recreational" smoker, like those people who smoke just now and then with a good cup of coffee.... But I either can't smoke at all or do 20 a day sick
So I will keep on going Tongues
I think that every break off fags counts so even when you didn't smoke just for a wee while it is good kiss
Cheers
