ear biting
hia i came on the forum a few weeks ago worried about our 7 year old girl sasha and a new 7 week old puppy alfie, things between them are slowly settleing down and the end of this week alfie is allowed out so i'm hoping it will help them get on better when they are playing sasha keeps getting alfie by his ear and biting or trying to pull him alone by it is that normal play or some thing a mom would do to a pup,or some thing to worry about?

Re: ear biting
puppys as a thing about biting ears you had to see my poor xena with 2 of them doing it to her, all you can do is when you see the pup doing it tell her no and be comsistant with te the pup dont let her get away with it one time then tell her tell her off the next.
Re: ear biting
thanx steve its not the pup,its sasha the older girl doing doing it to the pup!

Re: ear biting
Normally the older dog is simply showing the younger dog the way of the world. Pups are teething and like to bite and the older dog will put them in their place if they bite too hard or exhibit inappropriate behaviour. If your older dog is properly socialized and trained she can be your best asset in training your pup. I believe that puppies learn so very much from being around an older dog and you should let them teach as much as possible.
I would also recommend monitoring them to make sure that it doesn't get out of hand in the event there are jealousy issues and perhaps keep them seperated if you are not around until you are sure they have accepted each other.

Re: ear biting
dont ignore them it may go to far and end wanting to kill each other, you need to be a pack leader and that behaver is not on,
Re: ear biting
thank you for the advise guys, they are never left alone together, alfie has got his crate and when they both need time out he goes in there where he normally falls asleep just like an over tired toddler lol!

Re: ear biting
my two do this all the time! .. vinnie can be to rough doing it tho' so i always monitor playing .. they will both happily play rough and be fine .. but the SECOND i think 1 is going to get hurt because the other is been too rough (usually its vinnie).
i will end play time and make them cool off, if they want to play again when they are calmed down they will but again i will always keep a close eye.
