new puppy and new to the breed
hello all we got dorris on monday she is not quite 8 weeks old yet she has a cage to sleep in and be in when we are out or busy, she seems to do well weeing and pooing on her paper in the cage. she does cry quite alot though will she get out of the crying ? she is a gorgeous little girl, she is slowly getting confident around my 4 other small dogs. i have not managed to stop her tugging at my clothes yet, but she is only a baby so alot to learn any advise on training tips and things would be great thankyou

Oh dear, give the poor girl a chance, you've only just got her & she's just playing the way she would with her siblings!
What are you doing at the moment to stop her nipping/grabbing your clothes?

Re: new puppy and new to the breed
oh she's so cute!! good luck!
my girl is 9 months old and she whined and cried in her crate the first few nights, but we just let her cry (very hard, but we did) and gave her the very rare reassurance of "quiet, Jellybean". she was sleeping through the night by the end of the week with a break for the middle of the night wee, and then she was sleeping 8 hours through the night by the end of the first month.

I've not had a dog that young but I'm sure others will have loads of advice for you. Time, patience and love will I'm sure become useful in abundance.

Re: new puppy and new to the breed
Here's a link to help with the clothes biting
http://staffy-bull-terrier.co.uk/stopyourstaffypuppybiting.html
The whinning is seperation anxiety. She isn't used to being left alone and is trying to get attention. Build up the time left gradually and make sure she has a chew toy with her and a radio or TV left at low volume nearby will also help.

She will cry, nip, moan etc generally be a baby. It's fine to pop her in her cage for chillout time, her cage needs to be a positive place to go for rest or sleep, not punishment.
Naturally she will want to be around you, the pulling at ur clothes is for attention or play.
If she grabs at u, a firm no, and ignore her. She needs weeks to learn right from wrong, ur routine, to fit in with ur other dogs etc, so don't expect too much, the first 4-6weeks are the hardest.

biting
she does really nip hard and tug at clothes but she only seems to do it to me not my mum, but my yorkshire terrier was like it when she was a pup. i tell dorris no firmly or clap my hands or make like a yelp noise, but she still carries on the cheeky girl. i blew on her on slight and she stopped. would this be a bad thing to do? i dont want to frighten her. x
