Re: Infection is back..........
I would go back to the vets, have you sorted out an aftercare bill yet with the home? It really should be aftercare treatment. One thing after another.

Re: Infection is back..........
i went to the kennels last week, they sed they'd ring me back, which they havent. ive got a check up appointment next monday, and will go back to the kennels when i no the outcome of her appointment. unless, of course she goes down hill thn i'll take her back earlier.
it jus seems like its a constant battle. i wud never dream of putting her back in the kennels, but it does make me wonder if shes jus a sickly dog and im gunna have probs with her forever.
in my opinion they r gunna have to open her up and find out whts goin on, as summit deffo int right, its her 4th week of tablets now.
if the kennels dnt pay out im gunna threaten to take em to the papers or court as it shud not b my responsibility and my insurance wont cover it as she was spayed before the insurance was taken out.
DAMN IT!

Re: Infection is back..........
I'd phone the vets & tell them - ask them if it's normal (which I doubt) for the discharge to start again while she's already on antibiotics.
They may sugest increasing the dosage if she's not already on max. dose - that's what they did with Dempsey when his ear turned septic & he was already on anti-bs.
I wouldn't wait till monday, if it were me. I'd also write to the rescue place, detailing exactly what has happened, including the fact that they are ignoring you. Put it on paper exactly what you expect from them & send it by recorded mail.

i wouldnt know what to put in it or where to start
she had a drip last nite, but it looks ok today, no discharge as yet.
she has weed 3 nights in a row now n all, which she hasnt done before. im thinkin this may b due to either the infection or the tablets shes on??
i jus have no idea what to do.
i have a home visit on the 9th august, i jus think they r gunna do ne thing to get out of payin.
i havent got the funds to pay for her if she needs to b opened up.
its really gettin me down coz i wanna make her better but nothing seems to work.

It doesn't have to be an essay. Just say that since her spaying, which was done by them, she has been ill with an infection. The infection hasn't cleared up, despite trips to the vets and you have asked them repeatedly to cover the vets costs. Tell them that unless the infection clears up very soon there may need to be further tests by the vets to find out exactly what is wrong. Tell them they have ignored your attempts to settle this in a friendly way, so you now wish to make it more official. Unless they confirm to you within 10 days that they will be paying for the teatment, you will consider legal action against them.
That doesn't mean that you then have to start legal action, but very often the threat is enough. Take 2 copies of the letter. Send the original to the rescue centre by recorded delivery, keep one yourself, and send one to your vets for their information, to be kept with her files.

Re: Infection is back..........
If it's a new infection, it's down to you. If it's an infection due to something they had done (ie the spaying) then it's down to them.
I know you don't want to be nasty, but you must make them undrestand that they can't just ignore you - it won't go away. After all, if you gave her back because you couldn't afford the vets bills (I know you wouldn't!) then who would have to pay then? Them. Plus, they'd have to look after her all over again & find her another home!

Re: Infection is back..........
I would have thought it is down to them, it's classed as after care, if you had paid for it to be done privatly then the aftercare is part of the op, the only thing I'm not sure on is that you can't actually prove as such that it was the spaying that is causing the infection. Are you elegable for any benefits with vet care?
What Caryll said is a great idea and may give you the results you need, it doesn't have to be nasty just straight to the point. There being very naugty by not contacting you.
She will get better, I promise that and I know its a struggle but just hang in there and be strong for you both, masive hugs Xx

Re: Infection is back..........
the vet has told me its down to the spay, so as long as they stick to their views it goes in my favour.
im jus so stressed out about this.
i wouldnt give her back, but i jus cannot afford the vet bills every single week.

Well I think writing a letter is your best option and get it clariffied. At least then you have everything in black and white and you can get reimbursed Xx

I know you wouldn't give her back - who could? And I know that rescue centres aren't made of money, but that doesn't mean they can deny their responsibility by ignoring you. You have to get them to realise you're not going to go away! Have you had a private talk with your vet? Would they be willing to contact the rescue centre on your behalf & explain that the infection is down to the spaying?

Re: Infection is back..........
Plus they previously said to you that if the infection was caused by their spay then any vets bills incurred would probably be covered by their insurance

I hope she gets better sonn and big hugs form us. I'm not at all familiar with the legal system in your country but I think a letter couldn't hurt. It doesn't have to be nasty just honest and straight forward.

Re: Infection is back..........
This is a copy of the email, hope its ok!!
Hello Julie,
Just a quick email to express my concerns RE Leanne. I have had her for approx 4 weeks now, of which she has had an infection due to her spay.
She is currently on another course of antibiotics which she still has not responded to fully, she is still having some discharge.
I rang my pet plan insurance, but they informed me that due to the spay being done before the insurance was taken out i cannot claim for the expenses of vet fees.
I rang Appledown, who informed me that as Leanne was healthy on leaving the infection is my responsibility. However, Leanne showed signs of this infection on Sunday 26th June, one day after leaving Appledown. The vet has told me it is caused by the spay she had done.
The reason for this email is that i came down to Appledown on Monday 18th July to see where i stand with regards to the vet fees, as i do not have unlimited funds and have paid out almost £150 so far. The lady i spoke to reassured me that i would be able to get the money back from Appledown, and that she would get you to ring me the day after, however i have not heard anything and this was a week ago.
I do not wish to return Leanne, but i cannot afford the vet fees, and would hope you are able to claim against your insurance, or some how reimburse me.
Leanne is due to go back to the vet Monday 1st August for a check up, but if the antibiotics have not worked this time they are going to look into opening her back up to see what the problem is.
Please email back as soon as possible.
Many thanks,
Elaine
Wht do u think?
And how long should i leave it before sending them a letter ?

Great news! Also - have you talked to the vets about doing a culture to see what kind of bacteria it is? Sounds like the ab she's on isn't working very well, and if they knew what bacteria they were dealing with they might choose another, better suited ab.
Re: Infection is back..........
she was on noraclav, for 7 days, tht dint wrk, they gave me another 5 days of it. tht dint wrk either, they told me to take her back for another examination. they thn put her on trimacare, which has wrked, but obv not well enough. although she is on tht until monday, so theres still time.

Oh Elaine you and Jemma have been having an awful time.
I so hope that things get sorted our once and for all. Often an infection won't clear up unless the right antibiotics are used, so maybe the vet could send a culture/swab for testing as Ane suggested before they do another op.
Fingers X'd things start to improve for you both very soon and many, many big cuddles and sloppy kisses from me and my girls.
