Ear infection
Hi all, was up all last night (due to my pain) & Lola was scratching at her left ear ALOT and whimpering and yelping when she did, so I had a peek inside and it looked horrible & red and sore. Phoned the vet at half 3 as she really wasnt herself and he just said to give her half a paracaetamol for tonight and get her seen today.
So went to the vets this afternoon and I put her muzzle on just incase, and I'm sure glad I did!!
The vet couldnt get her light into her ear is was that painful.
I had to walk out of the room crying because of the distress and pain she was in, she was growling, barking, trying to bite. Just trying to protect herself. So they gave her an anti-inflammatory injection and we've got to go back on monday to see if they can get a look in her ear to see how bad the infection is.
Just my poor girl!
The receptionist must think im such a softie/nuts for crying.
I'll keep you all posted over the weekend and after the appt at the vet on monday afternoon.
Have a good weekend

Re: Ear infection
This is a all to familliar subject! Kaos has tiny ear canals and gets ear infections i would say at the very least once every 2 months. If its a reoccuring thing i would sujest buting some medicated ear wash and squirt it in her ears to clean them out once a week. The one i use is called TrizCHLOR and the ear drops i have at the moment are called Surolan but i must say they are not as quick working as the ones i had last time, ive completley forgotten what they are called tho lol

Re: Ear infection
Moo is also prone to them and the bleeding vets won't do me a repeat pescription! I have been using a cleaner from the vets which appears to have helped, well she hasn't had one inover a month now.
Let us know how you get on, apart from the injection did the vet dvise anything else?

Re: Ear infection
Hey all, think she's getting sore again but im not sure whether I can give her another paracetamol with her having the injection.
No, all the vet said was to not touch/interfere with her ear. Not to put anything into her ear.

Re: Ear infection
Hey all, the vet could get the torch in today so thats good she still has a little infection so been given drops: otomax suspension. But she growls/goes to bite (she has her muzzle on) & wriggles If I go near her with the dropper. I've given up for tonight but what do I do??
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Ear infection
Nice to hear its clearing up, and she wasn't in so much discomfort this time.
If you can get the drops in her ear it will gone in no time, as to giving them I'm not sure, is there someone that can help hold her? Or try treats as a distraction?

Re: Ear infection
Must be in a lot of pain. Is it just the dropper? If so you can try soaking a cotton ball with it (it needs to drip) and kinda squeeze a drop or so. The key is getting it in her ear so it can relieve some pain. Once the worst pain is gone she should let you near her ear again.

Re: Ear infection
Yeah just the dropper. Thing is we would go through SO much of the stuff and its so expensive.
Re: Ear infection
I know, but usually in a day or so she would let you use the dropper. Only other option is kinda dripping it down the inside of her ear flap (again, it uses more). Maybe someone else has another idea.
