Staff X's..
Not endorsing anyone that did this, but just curious to know lookswise, and nature wise, how you think a Staff crossed with these dogs might figure out, generally speaking...
Staff & American Bulldog
Staff & Bull Terrier
Staff & Rhodesian Ridgeback
Staff & Akita

Some of those mixes might add up to a disaster of a temperament. Why mess with them? Staffs are perfect just the way they are!!

I know, that is why I said it wasn't an endorsement to do it, just hypothetically speaking.
After all, there are lots of nice X's, imo, and they do fine as pets, as well.
For the record, keeping all things in mind, I think of those that the Staff/Am Bulldog might be fine.
Not sure about how a Staff/Akita would look, a bit out there I guess, Staff/Ridgeback, you might get away with that, at least in it's physical appearance.

Re: Staff X's..
Round here there are about 4 staff x EBTs to my knowledge & I've been asked several times to mate Dempsey with some idiots staff bitch. And a lot of money I've been offered as well!
They look like a miniature BT, except for the head, generally, which is more staff-like.
Temperament wise they seem to resemble the staff more than the BT.

But surely just BT pups are worth more than the cross, no?
BT pups can fetch £800 or more, depends.

Re: Staff X's..
People can sell those crosses for a lot because they make them out to be rare and special.
It is always a bad idea to intentionally breed mixed breed dogs. I would only get a mixed breed dog from a shelter or from someone giving it away as a result of an accidental litter. I would never pay someone for a mixed breed dog that they bred because that is encouraging them to continue doing it.

Round here, the staff is a status dog, and the BT x Staff is even higher status! They can sell a BT x SBT pup for around £400, which is a very high price for a cross breed! A registered BT pup from a good breeder who has health tested both parents will set you back about £900+. However, there are very few EBTs around here, and no litters born in recent years. I had to go to Essex to get Dempsey.
I've been offered £400 stud fee for Dempsey to mate him to a staff.

Re: Staff X's..
Living in London i've seen every type of staffy x imaginable. Now then..
Staff & American Bulldog- Generally look like a bully type staff and are larger then average, most are solid white.
Staff & Bull Terrier-They tend to look like the old school bull terriers, hinks variety if anyone wants to look up a picture. A nice looking cross, i wouldn't say no to one.
Staff & Rhodesian Ridgeback-Only an idiot would cross these two dogs, they come out very leggy and very typey, you'd soon have the dda police banging on your door.
Staff & Akita- They can take after the staff or the Akita, if its the Akita they look quite collie like with a rough coat and pricked ears. If its the staffy, well its just another staffy cross.
Also if anyone is interested i know of two staffy x labs. Both have staffy heads and labrador bodies and coats, very staffy in personality but not as big as you might imagine, barely over standard staffy size really.
Most staffy crosses come out looking more staffy then the other parent.

I suppose, but even if the KC don't recognise them right now, I think they would be further along the line than any Staff/Shar crosses.
The Labradoodle tends to have a consistant look to it, does it not, something which I don't think a Staff and Shar litter would have.
Just my guess!

I suppose they could, technically, but have no idea how robustly such things are pursued and enforced.
Going by all the X adverts that there are, not to mention those that ARE pups of banned breeds (openly for sale, on the net), it appears the answer is - not very robustly..

Re: Staff X's..
It really depends on your area and your luck. All it takes is one dog hating police man with a vendetta. On another staffy site i'm a part of theres recently been a kc registered blue staffy arrested for being 'type'. If they can say a kc purebred is typey, well i wouldn't want to risk my luck with a pitbull looking crossbreed. There seems to have been a big crackdown on blue staffies recently, possibly the police have been watching too much Ceaser Millian and they think all blue dogs are pitbulls?Going by all the X adverts that there are, not to mention those that ARE pups of banned breeds (openly for sale, on the net), it appears the answer is - not very robustly..

Surely if it is registered at the KC, as being 100% staff, then that is all the evidence any lawyer would need to present to the police.

I think generally, if you have a well trained, under control dog & you don't have a vendetta going on with a nasty neighbour, you'll be left alone!

No they can look more "poodly" or more "labby." I have a friend with one that looks like a Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier, still can't believe it's a Labradoodle.

Any dog can be type. Even a pure bred kc reg dog. Doesn't matter what breed it is, its not about it actually being a pitbull its about it LOOKING like pitbull. Hence its ridiculous but thats whats being enforced right now.
Yes pitbulls are every colour except merle, same as staffies. Joe public police officer who doesn't know the * end of a pit from it's head however may assume that because its 'blue' or has a 'red nose' that its a pitbull and therefore comes under type laws. Then the dog can be taken off you and tested. A well bred stafford would not pass enough of these tests to be deemed a pitbull type.

Mankind has always tried to engineer the look of dogs, that is why we have 'pedigree' dogs, because man wanted them to either look a given way, or perform a certain function.
Look at the Bulldog, the British version. A good example of a pedigree dog that was crafted to look a certain way, without care for it's health. I would imagine some of the crosses you cite to be more healthy, at least.

Yes, but even the police must account for their actions, and if the KC and the vet both confirm the breed, then they would have no grounds to hold the dog, let alone prosecute the owner.

I wouldn't agree. So many of the smaller "doodles" are bred in puppy mills and have terrible health. I just don't think anyone should be intentionally breeding mutts when there are so many of them in shelters across the country and the world.

Re: Staff X's..
I have a Rhodesian ridgeback x staff. His name is Bismarck. I adopted him from Birmingham dogs home 9 years ago. He's huge, very strong but the softest sloppiest dog you could ever wish for! He's obedient and very gentle, even around my 3 grandchildren who are 2 and 3 yrs old. He only barks once, they're commonly known as one barks. He is a beautiful looking dog and looks like a giant staff, wide head long legs wide chest red in colour with white chest and a pump handle tail. He growls like he ferocious when someone comes to the door but only barks once as I already said he's about 3 ft high with a beautiful temperament. So to all you knockers, you need to spend time with one before you judge. Fantastic family pets, brilliant with kids young and old, patient with old people and protective of their owner. I would definitely have another one in the future. Also he trained my other dog who was a complete wreck when we rescued her. She's a staff cross. He loves her so much and cuddles her by putting his paw over her and pulls her close to him.

Back to the type thing it ry does depend who sees u r right.
My uncle has pits (7 of them - huge house huge amount of land and well looked after.) they are all brother and sister from his old dogs. Police took them and have 4 back and destroyed 3. How can 4 be ok and 3 be out if they are the same litter! Also forgot to add lexis mum was akita cross staffy her dad was staffy so she is much more staffy like. She was accident litter and the owner kept her till she was 4 months but then desided they had too many dogs so I took her x
