Front shakey legs
Hey Board,
I am new to the board, just registered and just had a question for all of you. I recently adopted a 4/5 month old Staffordshire Terrier pup from the local shelter. I've had him for about over a week and have noticed that whenever he's laying out his front legs seem to shake, it's not a strong shake but noticeable. Today was the front day we've let him into the backyard because he was neutered before he was released to us. Now today he was excited in the back, running around and stuff but when he went to lay down his legs were shaking even more. It seems that whenever he's physically active they shake more after he legs down. I was wondering if any of you had had the same problem or issue with your puppies.
He's kinda big for his age so I'm thinking he's actually older, when he runs he kinda looks like he's leg strength isn't all there either. I don't know if it's a puppy thing, maybe his leg strength is still developing but any advice or comments are more then appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Front shakey legs
Hi
I have never noticed mine to have shaky legs unless he's sat in an awkward position then they do but he moves straight away and it stops, perhaps a trip to the vet and see what they think?

Re: Front shakey legs
I actually spoke to the vet yesterday and brought up his shakey front legs, she said she thought it might be his legs moving to the beat of his heart or it might be something neurological. I've been watching him whenever I remember and it seems his legs don't shake anymore and if they do it isn't as noticeable as it was before....

Re: Front shakey legs
Maybe he just needed to settle a bit, and to build up a bit of strength to his legs.
Just keep an eye on him, but hopefully it's all over now!

Re: Front shakey legs
Hi, my girl does this, her old owner said she had always done it and was told it was nothing to worry about by vets, we have also had the same answer. Everyone says she always looks nervous haha. She's doing it right now lol! I'd still check it out but it could just be the same thing

Re: Front shakey legs
One of our Staffy's front legs tremble when in a certain position. Always have done. His back legs also sometimes tremble, more so after exercise. I know some other Staffies too that do this. He also shakes all over when really excited, but that's different.
Re: Front shakey legs
Jett's front legs used to shake when he was little (when there was food on the go) and I've noticed them shaking after he's been running.I was thinking it could be like when we get a trapped nerve and our arms/legs jump.If you know what I mean
Re: Front shakey legs
Think its quite common as several of my staffies have had this. My Harry has it now especially with one of his back legs, and when he was being castrated recently I had his leg x-rayed while he was under anaesthetic (sp ? ) but nothing showed up.

Re: Front shakey legs
Yes its quite normal for a stafford to have the shakes its a muscle tremour and I beleive its due to the fact that the muscles in there legs are the same size as any other dog and so as there legs are shorter its natures way of contracting back either when excercised or flexed
