Sprained front leg
About a month ago, hubby threw a stick down a hill, to which Pixee went after. She did hurt her front leg, cos when she stopped, she was holding it up. She did let me feel it and press hard here and there, and didnt cry out, gave her a lovely leg rub on the spot, and she was off again. We noticed since then, if she over does the running, the next day, she will be holding up her leg for a min or so, till we give it a nice rub. Yesterday, she did go over board with the running on her 2nd walk through fields cos she was so happy and excited to go somewhere new. Today, more so this morning, she has been holding her front leg up, so I know she has upset the sprain again. I was thinking of giving her devils claw, which my hubby takes for his knee. Its natural stuff. But how much do I give, some help please would be appreciated

Re: Sprained front leg
If running is making her leg sore then stop her from running until its healed..

Re: Sprained front leg
Sprains can take a while to heal but medicine or natural herbal remedies will only help with pain. Since she is allowing you to touch the area she is probally fine and just needs a chance to heal. I would just avoid any high impact activity for a couple of weeks and slowly let her build back up to normal

Lynn the advice by JStaff is very sensible, no vigorous exercise for a while, maybe longer than you think. Please do not use human or natural, herbal or other remedies in dogs as there could be serious consequences. I would check with your vet before doing so. Many unregulated so called natural remedies have been shown to contain all kinds of things including strong steroids when tested for their actual ingredients. Hope Pixee is getting better.

Re: Sprained front leg
Thank you all for the advice. I havent given her anything. At the moment Pixee is back on normal walks which does not involve jumping, full on runs which she does love. Just gentle walks through the woods, along the canal. Keeping her out of the fields where she does go nuts . And so far no holding her front leg up. Will keep it that way for a while.

Re: Sprained front leg
Glad all is well. Staffs are muscular and do everything with 100 percent effort, so can easily strain a muscle or ligament. They don't know when to take it slow so easily re-injure themselves.
