Staff puppy keeps being mistaken for a Labrador??

Hi all, I’m new to the forum and have stumbled across it after lots of google searches today!
I have owned staffs for a long time now and have most recently picked up an 8 week old black brindle bitch. Upon purchasing her I was able to view both mum and dad who were the breeders family pets. Mum was a blue KC registered staff and dad was undeniably by looks a black staff but was not KC registered. Upon bringing our pup home, everyone that has seen her has assumed she is a puppy Labrador or a cross but nobody seems to think she is a staff, and I’m now a bit worried? Has any body else had their pup confused for another breed and as they get older they get more ‘staff like’? Some have suggested she may need to grow into her features? Hello and welcome from my girls and me.

Your girl is lovely! What is her name ?
People mistaking her for a labrador are simply ignorant and I’m guessing they’re not looking any further than her ears ... or maybe plus the dark colouring

She looks like she’s starting to place her ears, her right one first and yes, babies do go through their gangly stages of growth. She looks like a finer sporty terrier build (like my Opium) rather than the heavier bully build (like my Nifty) but yes, she does look like alot of young staffies I’ve seen  

If it’s any consolation to you, Nifty has been mistaken for a bulldog or an american bully I presume because she’s stocky and Opium gets mistaken for a mini rottweiler because she’s black & tan

We have called her Nellie... although she does have large ears so we have contemplated changing her name to Dumbo! Lol!

We have never brought a pup from a breeder before, we’ve always had staffies but usually have been given the from friends who’s staffies have had pups so we have always known the background of parents etc! I feel like we took a bit of a gamble with Nellie and now I’m wishing I waited to get a KC registered pup for peace of mind, but I was desperate for a staffy after losing our last in April!

It makes me feel better that she’s not the only one who’s been mistaken, I’m interested to see how she looks as she starts to grow!

Hi from me & Katy Nellie is adorable As Nifty has said, they through different stages in growth so people will see different things!
Any consolation I was asked if puppy Katy was a jack russell, boxer & recently pit bull! People haven't a clue

Ah this happened to me too, my boy is just over a year now, but when we first got him he too had large floppy ears, and so many people asked us if we were sure he was a Staff (which he undoubtedly is, and we had seen both parents etc). It does make you question though doesn't it! Nellie is beautiful, and such a great name x
